Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart Community

Last Sunday, part of our school community came together to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Confirmation candidates came from our Year Five and Six classes and were joined with some 2020 Year Six students as well as some students from the parish program. I am sure all those present would agree, the occasion was a spirit filled event and befitting of such a significant step in our student's faith journey. Thank you to Bishop Terry Curtin and Father Gilbert for officiating such a beautiful ceremony and to our staff, in particular Jenny, Marty, Amanda and Kate for all your work preparing the students and on the day.

Congratulations to the following students who received the Sacrament last Sunday:

Anni, Sienna, Jayben, Joel, Faith, Sylvie, Nicola, Hanna, David, John, Thomas, Jakob, Oscar, Maleah, Miliana, Julian and Joshua

and former students

Connor, Ricardo, Isaac, Georgia, Huy and Anthea

Parents and Friend's Committee

Our next Parents and Friend's Committee meeting will take place tomorrow in the staff room at 9.00am. We had a great attendance at our first meeting and we would love to see that enthusiasm with numbers continue tomorrow. All new parents or parents who have not previously been on the committee are very welcome to attend.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Parent/Teacher interviews have been rescheduled for Thursday 25th March. A letter will come home next week reminding you of the time you were originally allocated. You will have the option of confirming this time or rescheduling for a time that is more convenient.

Covid Protocols

With the reduction in protocols within our wider community, so some of the protocols have been relaxed at our school. I ask that if entering the school and not wearing a mask, that you maintain a physical distance of two metres between yourself and our staff. I also ask that you continue to keep our students at home if they are not well, in particular if they exhibit any of the COVID symptoms. Please be assured that our students will continue to maintain their strict hygiene practices of washing their hands regularly which was introduced last year.

Lunch orders

Lunch orders will recommence next term. As was the case pre COVID, we have an arrangement with the Parade Preston campus canteen to supply lunch orders one lunch time per week. I am currently negotiating final arrangements with Parade such as menu, costs and the designated day. Further information will be provided within the next couple of weeks.

Year Prep Enrolments 2022

Our enrolments for 2022 officially opened on Monday the 1st March, and will close on Friday 20th June. Again this week enrolments were received from siblings of current students, Billie sister of Chloe in Year One and  twins Jazlyn and Taslyn sisters of Glendon in Year Two. If you have family, friends or neighbours who have children commencing school in 2022, we would appreciate you recommending our school as a prospective school for their children.

Welcome Back

This week it was so great to be surprised with the visit by two members of our community, who made such a great contribution to our school during their time with us. Our first was George who now attends Parade College Preston. George was accompanied by his beautiful Ya Ya Helen, who has been George's guardian since he tragically lost both his parents before he commenced Year Six. As you can see, George is growing into a magnificent young man. George's brother Ari who was in Year 12 at Parade College Bundoora last year, was dux of his school. I am sure you will agree, both boy's parents and their Ya Ya must be so proud of them.

Yesterday our former teacher Tanya surprised us with a visit bringing her beautiful four month daughter Niah to meet the staff and students. As you can see, Tanya is justifiably a very proud mum and Niah a beautiful, healthy alert baby.

Please stay safe

Yours Sincerely

Mark Tierney
