Principal's Report - Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/ Carers,

PARACHUTE VISITS WITH MR PITT

This week I visited 4S and 6Y. Check out what happened during my visit and photos in this edition of the newsletter.

4 SPROUTS: Yesterday afternoon I parachuted into 4S during visual arts. Class 4S have been learning about Judy Watson Napangardi, a talented Aboriginal artist who painted colourful creative patterns. Today, the children had the opportunity to create their own story. I enjoyed walking around and listening to everyone share their own stories and who they spoke about. Children added paint to their design and shared reasons for why certain colours and patterns were used. I am looking forward to seeing the artworks when they have been completed.

6 YAMS: On Tuesday I parachuted into 6Y during a writing lesson. Children were recapping the previous lesson and were able to answer all of the questions asked by Miss Yousif. In today’s lesson 6Y collaboratively completed a summary anchor chart. It was pleasing to see so many children sharing their understanding. To further show their understanding, children had to write about how they incorporate the FAIR rules each and every day. Later in the day, a few children came to my office to share their great writing. Well done 6Y!

MEET THE TEACHER AFTERNOON

Thank you to the families who attended our Meet the Teacher Afternoons last week. I am sure you found out lots more about the programs we have at school as well as having a brief chat with your child’s teacher—this is an important start to the new year as is our commitment to working together in 2021 (we hope you enjoyed the lolly bag!)  A big thank you to the teachers as well for staying back for the afternoon session.

STUDENT PORTFOLIOS  - SEESAW APP

This year students at Fairvale will be recording their learning on the Seesaw app to share with their parents and carers. Students will be able to show what they know by uploading their work to their individual portfolio (folder) on Seesaw.  Student work may include photos, videos, drawings, text and links. Only your child’s teacher and school administrators of Seesaw can see their work. The classroom teacher approves all work before it can be shared. Families can see their child’s work through the Seesaw website/app. Each family will receive an invitation from the class teacher to sign up. It is expected that all families join in and allow their child/ children to take part.

K-6 INDUCTION ASSEMBLY

Last Friday we held our annual K-6 Induction Assembly. During the COVID-Safe event, we inducted School Leaders, SRC Members, House Captains and Vice Captains and Library Monitors for 2021. These roles are very important and we acknowledge this by inviting parents to attend. Check out some photos of the event in this edition of the newsletter.

SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAY (SDD)

School Development Days occur each term, usually at the start of every term, except Term 4. This day is only for staff, not for the students. SDDs are used for staff to take part in professional learning to support the school’s strategic improvement plan, including curriculum planning. In Term 4, there is one SDD held at the end of the year. This day is for staff only and we ask that parents/carers make other arrangements on Thursday 16 December, 2021. This means that the last day of school for students in 2021 is Wednesday 15 December.

STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK

All adults on site will be healthy and ready to work and we expect the same for our children and their families. If they are unwell at school you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date. Check out the link below.

COVID-19 GUIDELINES – DROP OFF AND PICK UP – FROM MONDAY 22/2/2021

Thank you to everyone who continues to follow COVID-19 guidelines every day. From Monday changes will occur to Drop Off and Pick Up:

  • DROP OFF – children enter the school by themselves. If you need to go to the canteen or uniform shop you must complete the COVID-Safe Check-in using your phones.
  • PICK UP – gates open at 2.45pm, but you must complete the COVID Safe Check-in using your phone – this is quick and simple.

(if you do not have your phone OR cannot access the check-in, then you will need to go to the Wolseley Street gate, and enter your information on the school laptop, which will be kept on the office verandah).

Have a great fortnight,

I respect and acknowledge Aboriginal people as the traditional owners of the land on which I work, live in visit.
