Careers

We have a special little program here at Evans High that is very unique. Students like to call it the Reptile Club but it is so much more than just a few students in a club. Our Australian Native Reptile Program provides our students with a physical hands on experience that teachers directly link to classroom learning.

At Evans, students do not read about adaptations from a book, they see it in action being used by our reptiles. Geography is also accommodated as students want to learn about the biomes that our reptiles are from and the impact humans are having upon their environment. Also, the narratives that our students produce in English using their favourite reptile as a main character are inspirational and provide a perfect avenue for the use of Anthropomorphism.

It has taken almost 2 years of careful planning and testing to be able to provide such an outstanding experience for our students. Yes, there are lots of rules and parental consents required. However, it is all about learning and experiencing in a way that is of most beneficial to our students which makes all the hard work worthwhile.

When we can once again have our community visit for an open day, please come and see for yourself all the amazing work that is being done for your children, our students, here at Evans. Until then, here are a few photos of the Reptile Program in action.

Kindest of regards,
