Year 7 Year Adviser

Allyssia Lloyd

The start of 2021 has been an exciting and busy time for Year 7 students, settling into their classes of 7H, 7A, 7P and 7R. It has been wonderful to see so many students making new friends and taking the opportunity to be a part of a number of school events and initiatives. Mrs Azzi and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our Year 7 students and the amazing qualities they possess.

During the first three days of high school, Year 7 students participated in a range of introductory lessons to develop a better understanding of the school, the teachers and their peers. Throughout these lessons, students learnt a variety of skills including how to read and understand their timetable, how to submit an assessment task and how to work as part of a team through team building activities.

Students have also participated in a number of events and programs such as the Evans High School’s Swimming Carnival, the Best Start Assessment and Peer Support. We have a number of school initiatives coming up in the next couple of weeks including Harmony Day, Evans High School's Cross Country and Taloodles Therapy sessions.

These activities assist students in building positive relationships with other students and their teachers and building their confidence and resilience. Evans High School will be hosting an athletics carnival in Term 2 and your child will be participating in NAPLAN. We encourage all students to get involved in the upcoming events.

Mrs Azzi and I are extremely proud of how well the year group has transitioned from primary school and we are very excited for the year ahead. 2021 is shaping up to be an exciting year!

Year 9 Year Adviser

Maati El Hafiane

Year 9 has welcomed the new year and new school term with great enthusiasm as they jumped straight into their newly selected electives. It has been wonderful seeing how well the students in Year 9 have adjusted to their elective classes and subjects. We have already seen some wonderful work coming out of these classes, most notably the work being produced in the TAS electives.

In week 3 of the term, the students participated in the annual school swimming carnival, some of our Year 9 students participated in what was a great day and many took home ribbons. There were also some daring Year 9’s who participated in the student vs. teacher race. Although these students put up a strong fight, they were ultimately defeated by the teachers. There is always next year for redemption!

In addition to the wonderful work our students are doing both inside the classroom and at school events, a number of our students are participating in programs across the school, including the Haka Warrior program. Year 9 is highly represented in this group and we wish our students involved good luck for the PCYC competition to be held in week 9 of this term.

I'd like to also welcome Ms Elliot, who is our Relieving Assistant Year Adviser for 2021. She is an amazing and passionate teacher who is located in the HSIE staffroom. I'm looking forward to working along side Ms Elliot this year and we are bot extremely excited to see our Year 9 cohort strive for greatness this year.

Year 11 Year Adviser

Melissa Silva

Year 11 students have started off their Senior Studies with a fresh start wearing their senior uniform. This year will be exciting and demanding for our students as their work load will increase as well as their responsibility around the school.

In Week 3, we had our annual swimming carnival at Charles Lowles Lesiure Centre at Emerton. It was a really nice day and great to see so many students participating.

During week 4, Year 11 students participated in the ‘Sleep Connections’ workshop. Students enjoyed the workshop and learnt so much more about their own sleeping patterns, the relationship between sleep and their success at school as well as how sleep affects their overall well-being.

Year 11 also selected their student leaders as part of the Student Leadership Team. Congratulations to those successful students and good luck in your new leadership role.

Looking forward to a great year!

Year 12 Year Adviser

Stephen Satmaka

As we settle into 2021, Year 12 has most certainly stepped up amongst the school as leaders in all areas, including academics and the sports world. The leadership team has been steadfast and true, keeping to all of their commitments and responsibilities to the school. They have been rolling out regular sporting activities at lunchtime and it is great to see members of my year group leading these successful lunchtime sport activities.

Speaking of sport activities, I was very pleased to hear that 12 students from my year group joined in and participated in many events during the swimming carnival. Modelling for the rest of the school on how to partake in whole school sports events in a positive and inspiring way.

I noticed this year at the homework centre, there were at six students from Year 12 leading the way with their studies and making the most of the homework centre, a fantastic service provided by hardworking teachers at this school that are donating their time to help students meet their academic goals.

Year 12 is making the most of the 6th period and being able to make their lives fit into their schooling only needing to be here 4 days a week. My message to my year group: Use whatever resources at your disposal to help you out. Mr Sondaar and I are here to help and if there is anything you need, let me know. I am beyond proud of you and will support you guys in whatever you need. Keep hitting those books!

Excelsior!
