Deputy Principals' Reports

Mrs Mee Lin Liau

Deputy Principal - Intensive English Centre

Evans Intensive English Centre (IEC) is so glad to welcome back enrolled IEC students from 2020 and new enrolments in 2021. We have 86 students and eight classes at the moment; with the current restrictions on immigration and lack of international travel, we are pleased to have our current cohort of student community!

Due to reduced enrolments, we have reclassified our students according to school age appropriateness into Stage 4 and Stage 5 (which includes the Stage 6 students). Majority of our 2021 enrolments are returning residents who had been stuck overseas when COVID-19 struck and 10 of our student families have had to go through the gruesome hotel quarantine. We want to thank our community for their compliance, caution and concern to keep the school safe.

Term 1, 2021 started with two full days of professional learning and planning amongst teachers and non-teaching staff. The start of the new school year busyness with administration and settling students into classes and the study routine has taken off well and now the hectic period of intensive teaching, continual assessments and report writing has set in! The whole school is participating cohesively with our School Improvement Plans and our 2021-2024 School Plans as guided by the NSW Department of Education Success School Model policy.

It is such a joy to see students wanting to be at school, in the IEC and not only engaging in classroom learning but also during lunch time extra curricula activities as well as student-initiated cultural performances for the upcoming Harmony Week celebrations! We cannot wait for the swirl of colours, enticing smell of multicultural food and the upbeat of drums from our student drummers to come.
