Visual Arts - Term 1

Hello and welcome to a new year of learning and creativity. My name is Miss Peele and I am incredibly excited for another fantastic year of learning and creativity in the Art Room. This term learners will be investigating a range of different ideas and concepts and creating artworks using a variety of materials and techniques. 

Prep:

Learning Intention: To understand how to use painting techniques in the creation of my artwork. 

Students will be learning how to create patterns in drawings. They will also explore how to create different textures when painting.

Year 1: 

Learning Intention: To understand how to use warm and cool colours in the creation of an artwork. 

Learners will experiment with different materials and techniques to make artworks. They will partake in observational and directed drawing activities, and utilise painting skills to create artworks with contrasting warm and cool colours. 

Year 2: 

Learning Intention: To understand how to create a sculpture using clay. 

Learners will investigate the fundamental skills with using clay. Throughout the term they will develop a deeper understanding of the different techniques that can be used when creating sculptures using clay. 

Year 3:

Learning Intention: To understand how to use surrealist techniques in a collaged artwork.

Learners will investigate the artworks of Louis Renard. They will combine elements learnt from Renard to influence the design of their own surreal artworks. Throughout the term learners will develop their skills in painting and collaging. 

Year 4: 

Learning Intention: To understand how to layer clay in the creation of their picasso inspired faces.

Learners will deepen their understanding of Pablo Picasso and the cubism art movement. They will develop their skills in ceramics by understanding how to layer and texture clay to represent their design. 

Year 5: 

Learning Intention: To understand how to use art tutorials to learn new painting techniques.

Learners will be using painting tutorials to develop their skills and understanding of painting techniques. They will extend their learning by problem solving the challenges that arise.

Year 6: 

Learning Intention: To understand how to design and create ceramic pieces. 

Learners will design their own ceramic piece and develop their skills in hand building throughout the term. Learners will be challenged to learn new techniques and deepen their understanding of the qualities of clay.
