Multimedia - Term 1

Welcome to Term 1. We hope everyone had a wonderful break and relaxing time over the holidays. This term, we welcome the Year 4’s to Podcasting, commence a new Year 1 Robotics/Coding Innovation, continue Year 2 Robotics/Coding Innovation, and start the journey for the Film and Radio groups. From the use of Spheros, to the use of the radio, and to the purpose of film and how it is used to portray messages, it’s sure to be an exciting time, in and around the multimedia room.

Robotics/Coding – Year 1

Learning Intention – To understand how to create visual programs and the application of this across various solutions.

Students will develop their visual programming skills across a number of robots and programs. They will start with applying their digital learning to the creation of presentations and how to visually communicate and effectively. Students will explore inputs and outputs, variables and different commands when using technology. Drag and drop programming will be explored through the use of Scratch Jnr, with students applying these programming skills through the use of robotics such as the Spheros.

Robotics/Coding – Year 2

Learning Intention – To understand how to use programming knowledge and language across various solutions.

Students will deepen their visual programming skills across a number of different technologies. Students will explore how different commands work across or differ from digital technologies. Drag and drop programming will be explored further through the use of Hopscotch, with students applying these programming skills in the creation of a game, and the transfer of programming knowledge to different robotics such as Dash Dot robots.

Podcasting – Year 4

Learning Intention – To understand how a Podcast be used, and effectively, to represent learning.

Students will develop their skills in public speaking and media arts through the creation of podcasts. Student will work on understanding the features and segments of effective podcasts and the importance of scripting in these. The use of apps such as GarageBand will help students to create their own podcast with engaging ‘intros’, ‘outros’, and ‘special effects’. The importance of editing when producing such texts will be explored and students will reflect on their and others’ podcasts and their effectiveness.

Film Innovation – Year 5

Learning Intention – To understand how various film techniques are used to create texts.

Students will develop their skills in film making through the exploration of themes, genres and their purpose. Students will explore film techniques such as green screen and create short texts with a focus on techniques such as angles and shot selection.  Students will identify how film can be used effectively in the portrayal of stories and content. Viewing, editing and how evaluation and feedback help to strengthen the filming process will be a focus for the term.

Radio Committee – Year 6

Learning Intention – To understand how to engage an audience through the use of recorded content, interviews, audio and effects.

Students will develop their public speaking skills further, with an emphasis on presenting their own opinions and interviewing. The technical side of radio will a focus, with students learning how to navigate and use a sound desk. Students will explore the use of segments such as games and Vox Pop and how these helps to engage the audience. Being able to transfer this into scripts and present their skills via a broadcast will be the focus.
