Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,

HARMONY DAY

Every year as a school and a community we embrace and showcase the students’ talents for Harmony Day. Some students who have volunteered will perform something special to their family and culture on Thursday 18th March that relates to their cultural background to help celebrate cultural diversity within our school and the broader community.

Our diversity makes Australia a great place to live. Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. Officially held every year on 21st March. The Day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The message of Harmony Day is Everyone Belongs, the Day aims to engage people to participate in their community, respect cultural and religious diversity and foster sense of belonging for everyone. Since 1999, more than 70,000 Harmony Day events have been held in childcare centers, schools, community groups, churches, businesses and federal, state and local government agencies across Australia.

Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Australians can choose to wear something orange during Harmony Week to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.

LABOUR DAY HOLIDAY MONDAY 8TH MARCH

I am sure I probably don’t need to remind you that next Monday is a public holiday.

Labour Day is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

So if you are lucky enough to be able to have the day off work I hope you enjoy eight hours of relaxation and a long weekend!

Kind regards,

Darren Wallace
