PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

An important message about our kids safety.

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed an increasing number of parents and students putting themselves and others at risk during school drop off and pick up, especially in Eyre Street.  It is devastating that our Eyre Street crossing was decommissioned last year and was left unsupervised, yet we are still all very hopeful that it will be reinstated in the new financial year. In the meantime, staff are ensuring that the flags are displayed at the crossing each day in order to remind ALL road uses that our children cross here.

It is vital that we ALL put the safety of our kids FIRST.

This means:

  • Whenever ANYONE is crossing the road (in either Sutton or Eyre Street) we ONLY use the allocated crossing locations. Currently parents and students are crossing  from all directions. This is extremely unsafe. As a community, we are ALL responsible for being a positive role model to our younger Easties.
  • Do not make U-Turns in front of the school or near/on the crossing/s. The number of people doing this each day, is concerning. It is an accident waiting to happen.
  • When driving along Eyre or Sutton Street, ALWAYS slow down and look for children near the crossing to ensure they are able to cross over safely. This is ALL of our responsibility.
  • Always abide by the marked traffic signs and do not park in the ‘No Standing’ zone outside of the school.
  • Talk to your children and remind them of the importance of road safety and make sure they are using the crossings each day when required.

Together we can keep our kids safe, remember the old saying “ It takes a village to raise a child” – this is no different, it just reinforces the message that we need EVERYONE to be doing the right thing every single time. There are no second chances when safety is compromised.

Please prioritise our kids safety today!
