Year 2/3/4 RSL Visit.

On Monday, 17th of May, we went to the RSL. I saw bullets and hats, then we went into a room and sat down and talked. Matt, an Army Veteran said that he had been to two wars and he had five badges. By Elwin

Today we went to the RSL and we saw people who fought in the war. We saw weapons and things that people fought with in the war. Matt told us that the medals are for different wars. The little medal tells us about when the war started and ended. By Yianna and Maxie.

On Monday, we walked to the RSL. We saw Matt, who fought in the Iraq and Afghanistan. We saw medals , pictures of soldiers and things that soldiers used for the war. Matt wore five medals! The medals on your left are your badges, if the badges are on your right they are your family members badges. The Australian badges are always first. By Isabella and Roman

On Monday, we went on a walk. We went to the RSL, it stands for Return Services League. We saw lots of medals in the glass case. Matt went to two wars, he has five medals. If you have the medals on the right side, they are a family member's medals, but if it's on the left side (over your heart), they are your medals. By Jacob and Jasmine

On the 17th May 2021, I went to the RSL to learn about the Army. He told me about his five medals, they had different coloured ribbons, like green, blue, red, silver, maroon and violet. He told me it took him 4 1/2 years to get it (he means the medals). Matt also told me he had gone to two wars!! Afghanistan and Iraq. He also showed us pictures of the army people, knives and other things. Then I went back to school and so that's all for today. By Veer

Today we went to the RSL and we saw Matt, who was a member of the Army. He wore lots of medals, which he was given because he was a good soldier. He works there to help other service people. The different Services are The Army, The Navy and The Airforce. By Roery

Matt also told us that the RSL is a place for veterans to meet and talk about their experiences of being in one of the services. The RSL helps the veterans sometimes with money, food and housing. Also it helps people who are finding it difficult to cope with their experiences of war. They get together to celebrate the different Memorial days such as ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day and others special days too.

First we sat down and we asked Matt questions. And then we listened to Matt’s story, the story was very interesting. We saw his medals. And there were tank bullets and AK bullets. And some anzac biscuits and some Anzac books. Then if we looked back there was a platter with the soldiers name and picture. By Alex

“This was a great experience, since I love a lot of history about war and the people that got a Victorian Cross. As well as the stuff they had like knives and bullets and the slouch hats that they had. It was really good having a veteran named Matt telling us his experience in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

I didn't really like the walk because I was really cold. I liked the old war things like the dirty old bullets and the hats and the pictures and the medals that Matt had. By Ethan

We went to the Darebin RSL and we saw swords and knives and they looked cool. They did look cool but I like the medals with gold, the medals looked shiny.

LEGO CLUB GOES GANGBUSTERS!

It is my absolute privilege each and every Monday to be part of the Lego club, held each lunchtime in the Art Room. John, Thomas and Julian have been instrumental in running the Lego Club and it is always packed, with children from Prep to Year 6. What an incredibly successful initiative from our students.

And the message from the team is... 'Everyone is Welcome!'

Year 5/6 Excursion to VSSEC

This term our Year 5 / 6 students are researching all things Science as part of our Inquiry unit. With China being the second country in the world to successfully land on Mars, the interest in all things Space is at a high!

With this in mind, our senior students visited VSSEC (Victorian Space Science Education Centre) to learn more about our neighbouring planet. After donning spacesuits, our students participated in experiments, coding and simulation activities that involved collaboration and problem solving.

'I really enjoyed working at Mission Control because it allowed me to use all the knowledge about Space I've learnt over the years to help my colleagues' Thomas

'I really enjoyed the experiment about biology; it was about bringing plants to Mars and seeing if they could grow there. I felt like it was really exciting to learn about this stuff' John Di Vincenti

Year 5's off to see Santa Maria production

This week the Year 5 students visited Santa Maria where they became an audience to watch the secondary school's latest production.

I really enjoyed the show, everyone was great at acting and the singing was amazing,

The dancing was next level. Even though the microphone was breaking up, they still  kept their character. - Ayisha Toe

I really liked coloring the bookmark that we got to take home with us and we all had lots of fun there.- Caitlin Chuang

The show was amazing and we all loved it so much. We had activities to do before  the show for example we did colouring and we also did an escape room.- Isabelle Mateski

It was fun going to Santa Maria because we did fun things like the escape room, where we had to get locked in a room and if we got the code, we got out. Julian and I paired with three girls. After that we had a choice to make a bookmark, do some drawing or reading. I chose bookmark making. The escape room was difficult because it was hard Maths.

The show was about people who met in a laneway and they wanted to perform on stage. The stage owner had an emergency at home so she left. Then a lady came and was talking to them and the girls who met in the laneway sang songs. But then at the end they pulled out their phones and read something about the lady who came and who was talking to them had died.

The show was good, they were very good at acting. The guy who played the piano was very good at playing. And all the people playing instruments were good. ~ Liam Ricardo

I went to Santa Maria yesterday to watch a beautiful production and do some activities.

When we arrived,  a group of  Santa Maria girls took us to do an Escape Room!

I got paired with Olivia , we had to answer some Math's questions to get a code and escape. Unfortunately none of us were  successful in escaping, but we had a great time.

After that we went to the library to make a bookmark and read. I chose to read because they had awesome books like The Eye of the Sky and Stephen King, which is the one I read.

And after that we watched the AMAZING Production.

It was a musical about ten girls who wanted to sing, dance and have fame. But the producer had a family crisis to go to. So a famous dancer, who died three years ago, came back as a spirit and helped them live their dreams. ~ Ria
