School Council President

Welcome back!

It's been a long few weeks of lockdown and home learning and it really has been wonderful to see everyone finally back at school. Students, families, teachers and staff - I'm sure everyone breathed a sigh of relief when school resumed this week.

It's been a particularly hard time for many of our families who experienced power outages and thankfully service appears to have been restored to nearly everyone in our area. Please spare a thought for those who lost power as well as those in other parts of Melbourne and Victoria who may be waiting up to another three weeks for their power to be restored.

Being physically separated from our school community again has reinforced the importance to us of effective communication. We've been working hard to improve our communication and that's why we switched to the new newsletter format and started a Facebook page. We're also in the middle of long-overdue website redesign that we plan to launch soon.

What we'd like now is feedback from you, our school community, on how you you think we can best communicate with you. We're putting together a short survey that we will send out early next week. We'd love to hear from as many of you as possible so please take the time to fill it out and have your say. I promise we'll be be reading every response.

Grand Raffle - "Bring back our train"

We were planning to start selling tickets for our Grand Raffle to help "Bring back our train" over the last few weeks of term. With the disruption to everyone's lives caused by the latest lockdown, we will now start selling tickets early in term 3.

We're aiming to raise money to "Bring back our train" as requested (demanded?) by our students. The train was a much-loved part of the school playground that unfortunately had to be removed as it had become unsafe.

Thank you to those who have kindly offered donations as prizes. We're always looking for more so please get in touch if you or someone you know might be able to help. Once we have finalised the prize list, we will make sure we publicly thank our donors and we hope our school community will support those local businesses who are supporting us.

Zig zag markings on Harris Gully Road

The new zig zag markings
The new zig zag markings

We've had reports from members of the school community about cars approaching the Harris Gully Road school crossing at speeds higher than the 40km/hr limit during school speed limit times.

After expressing our concerns to Manningham Council, the council agreed to paint zig zag markings on both sides of the crossing. These markings are designed to alert drivers to an upcoming school crossing.

We hope these will encourage drivers to slow down - please let us know if you notice a difference.

Enjoy the weekend

Now that community sport is back and indoor venues are open, I'm sure it's going to be a busy weekend for many families. I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend and here's hoping that restrictions are eased even further next week.
