What's happening in the classrooms

The term is half way over and we have been very busy in the senior school! The year 6’s had another visit from Karen and Patrina from Our House Spirit. The ladies helped the students to plan for some clubs that they will run in the next few weeks.

In Maths we are developing our skills and understanding through mathematical dialogue using Number Talks.

In Literacy the year 6’s have been expanding their vocabulary by learning about and using new and interesting words. They are also exploring the structures and features of a discussion text. The students have really enjoyed expressing their opinions and looking at the different sides of an issue through line debates.

In Religious Education we have been looking at our responsibilities as Christians through a focus on morality and justice and how this looks within the Church community.

In inquiry the students have been investigating the three levels of government (federal, state and local) and the roles of each level. Last Thursday, as part of our inquiry unit, the year 5’s and 6’s had Rosie and Bronwyn visit from the Parliament of Victoria. The students learned a lot about how the parliament runs and how laws are made. They had a lot of fun role playing the passing of a law. Here is what some of the students said about the incursion:

Tabitha - I liked how they brought in the mace and I liked that the party I was in was the winning party!

Howgoa - It was fun! I enjoyed how different people had different roles to play.

Ian - I thought it was fun because we got to play different roles and learn about how it all happens (the passing of a Bill).

Tabella - It was a fun, new experience. It was interesting to learn how laws are made.

Karnvir - I liked how everyone got to stand up to do their roles. I’m thinking that maybe some of us could do it when we’re older.
