Hub Leader

We are very excited to announce that we have employed a Community Hub Leader. We welcome Hema to our community.  Hema starts this week at our school on Wednesday and will be on site on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The National Community Hubs Program supports migrant and refugee families, particularly mothers with young children, to connect, share, and learn. Hubs connect women with schools, with each other, and with organisations that can provide health, education, and support. In the coming weeks there will be lots of information about our Hub and how parents and the wider community can become involved.

Reports and Parent and Teacher Interviews

This week parents will receive a letter via Operoo about parent and teacher interviews on Monday June 21. It is important that parents come to these meetings. Teaching your children is a team effort between home and school and the meetings are a great opportunity for parents and teachers to share information, discuss progress and any areas for improvement in the second semester.

Semester 1 reports will be sent home on June 17. The reports show achievement and progress for the first half of the year against the Victorian Curriculum standards. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's report you can discuss it with your child’s teacher at the parent teacher interview. Interviews are 15 minutes. If parents feel that they would like more time with their child’s teacher a meeting will be organised for another time.

School will finish at 12.30pm on Monday June 21, to allow teachers to meet with parents.

Eucharist Commissioning Mass

Thank you to that families who attended our Eucharist Commissioning Mass on Sunday. This is part of the children's preparation for receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist on June 20 at 11am Mass.  There will be a Eucharist Workshop for students and their families on Thursday June 3 at 6pm and a Eucharist Retreat Day on June 17 during school time. More details to follow.

School Photos and Uniform

Last Thursday we had the annual school photos. The children had their individual and group photos. The weather was not that kind to us so but the photographers still managed to find a nice spot outside to take the group photos. In due course the photos will arrive at school and be sent home.

It was fantastic to see most students in full winter uniform for photo day. It is important that the correct uniform is worn everyday. School uniform promotes a sense of belonging for students and creates a positive identity for the school community. School uniforms also contribute to the personal safety of students by allowing easier recognition of students inside the school and in the community.

Uniforms can be purchased from Beleza in Hallam. We have a number of uniform items free to a good home in the office. If you need assistance with sourcing winter uniforms please contact the office.

Breakfast Program

We are looking to start a Breakfast Program at school in term 3. Eating a healthy breakfast before starting the school day is linked to improved concentration, increased achievement, increased energy, a higher intake of vitamins and minerals, and even a healthier body weight. Breakfast is especially important for young students whose brains use up about half of the body's energy. If there are any parents who would be available to help in the mornings, even on one day a week, please contact me via the office.
