Teaching and Learning News

It is hard to believe we are just two weeks away from the end of our first semester of learning. This term has certainly tested our adaptability and creativity, resilience and ingenuity. Students and their home teachers have done a wonderful job. We are looking forward to hearing the laughter and learning of our students and teachers once again filling our learning spaces and playground.
Semester One Reports and Parent Teacher Learning Conversations
At the end of 2020, our student reporting provider abisystems retired and we have transferred to a new system ICON reports which is managed by Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools (MACs). This means there will be some changes in both the appearance of reports and the way you will access them.
In Semester One 2020 a modified report was provided due to Covid 19 and students participating in Remote and Flexible Learning at home. They didn't receive dots to indicate their achievement against standards. This means there will not be an indication of their previous achievement in subjects in this Semester One report. Instead the one dot will indicate their placement for the conclusion of Semester One 2021 only.
Reports will be emailed to families on Tuesday June 22nd using your OPEROO email address. Please ensure this address is current and correct.
Reports will be supported by parent and teacher learning conversations which will occur between 3:30pm and 7:30pm on Thursday June 24th and from 8:30am - 1pm on Friday June 25th.
Due to COVID-19 and the constantly changing public health environment, they will be offered in three styles: video conference, by telephone or in school in a face to face setting.
There are some appointment times available in the morning as well as afternoon and evening. There are later appointments on Thursday evening. They are 10 minutes in length. Specialist teachers have also provided appointment times.
All bookings will be made as usual through www.schoolinterviews.com.au using the code ekzhx.
Bookings will open on Friday June 11th @ 12pm and will close at 5pm on Wednesday June 23rd. Any bookings required after this time will need to be made through the school office.
Booking confirmations include a link if joining via video link which you click on about 3 minutes before your appointment time (so make sure you keep your confirmation handy).
All you need is an internet enabled device with a camera and sound. Alternatively, a teacher will phone you at the time of your booking.
If you are attending onsite, note our Covid Safe plan requires you to wear a mask at all times when on school grounds, sign in using the QR code and sanitise your hands. Please do not attend in person if you are unwell.
If you are having a PSG (Program Support Group meeting) organised by Andrea, you don’t need to book a parent teacher learning conversation appointment as well.
You can choose whether your child is with you in the video call, just let their teacher know if this is the case. They may also attend the learning conversation with you in person.
Here's some information about Whereby, the video conferencing tool you may choose to use for learning conversations.
Join a Whereby Meeting
Whereby doesn't require any downloads or logins for guests.
To join the meeting, do the following:
- Open up a Supported Browser (we recommend the most recent builds of Chrome or Firefox).
- Paste the Room Link that was included in your Schoolinterviews booking confirmation email.
- Enter your name in the prompt.
- If this is the first time joining a Whereby meeting, allow Whereby to access your camera and microphone.
6. After allowing access, you'll see an image of yourself and if you wish you can disable your camera and/or microphone. Once you are ready, you can click the Join Room or Knock button to enter the meeting from here!
7. Have your mobile phone handy so if technical difficulties prevent a video learning conversation, your child's teacher can phone you (note it will have no caller ID) for a learning conversation.
Thankyou for your partnership in continuing the learning of your child over the past couple of weeks.
You have done an amazing job!
Enjoy the easing of restrictions over the long weekend.
