US Art Tour 2019

In late March, 24 students together with  three teachers from the NHS Art department, Christine Martin, Connie Stewart and Barry Drinan embarked on the 4th Northcote High School USA Art tour. The program is designed for year 9 -11 students that are passionate about art, design, media.

We kicked off in New York and spent five nights taking in the sights there.  We visited all the major galleries such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art,  Guggenheim, MoMA and the Whitney Museum of American Art. We also took in the main tourist sights including  a cruise around Manahttan, the Empire State Building, and attended an NBA basketball game at Madison Square Garden. One of the NY highlights was a  Broadway production of King Kong.

After our time in New York, we took the train down to Washington D.C.  where we visited many of its premier  galleries and museums, such as the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, as well as the Holocaust Museum, Museum of African American History and the Capitol Building.

Our final destination was Los Angeles where we attended Universal studios and  then checked out Venice beach before taking a plane back to Australia.

We were so proud of the students and how curious and engaged they were throughout an extremely hectic but rewarding schedule.

Hopefully doing it all again in 2021!
