Teaching & Learning

NAPLAN
Students in year 3 and 5 have now completed all their NAPLAN testing for 2021. Individual student performance is shown on a national achievement scale for each assessment. A result at the national minimum standard indicates that the student has demonstrated the basic literacy and numeracy skills needed to participate fully in that year level.
A NAPLAN individual student report will be issued by the school later in the year.
Semester 1 Reporting
A school report is a summary statement that records the achievements of students for a semester of learning. The report card summarises their achievement based on their individual results in summative assessment tasks carried out at school. The report card also provides families with information about the effort their child has displayed throughout the learning in specific learning areas, an overall comment about their general functioning at school and information about the students' classroom and playground behaviour. Semester 1 report cards will be emailed home on the last Thursday of the term, 24th June. This semester, teachers will report on all Learning Areas. Report cards will again be sent out via email. If your contact details have changed, please ensure you update the office so that it arrives in your inbox!
Semester 1 Learning Celebration
At Glenore Grove State School, we take great pride in the achievement of our students and we enjoy celebrating their successes. Our learning celebration ceremony takes place at the end of each semester. Students are nominated by their classroom/specialist teacher for these awards. This semester our ceremony will take place on Friday the 18th of June. Invitations will be sent to the parents of children receiving awards in the next few weeks.
Premier's Reading Challenge
We are delighted to invite all Glenore Grove State School students to join in the 2021 Premier’s Reading Challenge.
To complete the challenge:
• Prep to Year 2 must read or experience at least 20 books,
• Years 3 and 4 must read at least 20 books, and
• Years 5 to 9 must read at least 15 books.
Experiencing books can include shared reading, listening to stories, or reading picture books. The aim for the 2021 challenge is to engage more students to read than ever before. You can play a big part in your children’s future by encouraging them to be part of this positive initiative.
We look forward to seeing as many of our students as possible take part in the 2021 Premier’s Reading Challenge. The reading period for the 2021 Premier's Reading Challenge commences on Monday 10 May and concludes on the 27 August. All students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability. Students will also be reading books at school to help complete the challenge.
While there are no compulsory reading lists for the challenge, booklists are available to help students to select a range of reading materials https://readingchallenge.education.qld.gov.au/about/booklists
Letters regarding this challenge are coming home this week.
