The Design And Technology Teachers’ Association (DATTA) of Queensland have established an annual Subject Award program to recognise excellence and outstanding achievements in the Australian Curriculum (AC) Design and Technologies subjects across Queensland schools. The awards serve to provide public recognition for Queensland Design and Technology students with candidates being nominated by their teacher. Each year, the top three awardees in each category from the seven educational regions of Queensland, will proceed and compete to be acknowledged as the overall State winner in each category.

I am proud to announce the following students received awards in their respective categories: Joshua Booth for his customised toolbox project in Certificate 2 Engineering Pathways; Eli Townsend for his Adirondack chair and cubby house project in Certificate 1 Construction; Spencer Sharman for his laser cut lamp shade for Year 10 AC Technologies and William Moon achieving the award for his cologne bottle design in Year 9 AC Design and the 3D Printing categories where he designed a promotional chess set for the AIC Marist College Ashgrove Chess Team.

Lastly, for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) category, the Electric Vehicle Challenge team from last year have been recognised for their extraordinary efforts. The eV Challenge powered by Synergy is Australia's longest-running electric motorsport competition, first established in 2001. The aim of the event is to have teams - mainly from high schools - design, build, test and construct a small single-seat electric vehicle. Powered by a limited battery capacity and built to a limited budget, teams try and complete as many laps of a closed course as possible in 1 hour. The eV Challenge powered by Synergy is one of Australia's premier STEM education competitions, encouraging innovative engineering in a competitive and stimulating arena.
