One of the highlights of the week for me is listening to the Student of the Week awards at assembly. It always makes me feel so proud of the students at RNPS when I hear about their resilience, hard work, friendship and positive attitude. This year has certainly presented everyone with challenges, and the way we choose to approach them can make the difference to the outcome of those challenges.

One thing that the students at RNPS would be familiar with is the concept of Growth Mindset. Knowing that we can overcome difficulties with perseverance and positivity, and learning to see challenges as adventures is a skill that we can all learn if we don't posses it already. It would be easy to see this year as one big challenge, but the reality is that we are always going to have challenges before us, and how we chose to tackle them is up to us; our environment can influence many things around us, but our mindset is completely controlled by our own thinking. When I feel myself falling into a fixed mindset, I think about the amazing students here at RNPS who are tackling challenges, approaching new learning and working through life with a growth mindset, and try to do the same.

This video I have linked below is one of the best I have seen in describing how important a positive growth mindset is, and is suitable for adults and children. If you have 5 minutes together, I strongly encourage you to have a look.

Special events at RNPS

It has been so wonderful to see our students engaging in some extra special events over the last few weeks, with many planned for the coming weeks as well. This week the Grade 3s are having 'camp week' at school, which includes bike riding, experiments, orienteering and even a water fight! The teachers at RNPS have been so creative in planning extraordinary events for our students, evident not only in events like this, but many similar events in other year levels, as well as preparations for our Carols (unfortunately not 'Carols on the Green' this year, more like 'Carols on the Screen'!) Even though we have some new and interesting guidelines to follow, it certainly seems that we are gearing up to finish 2020 with a bang!

Parent Requests for 2021

In the last issue of the newsletter, I wrote about parent requests for class placement in 2021, keeping in mind that the plan is to keep classes much the same as the 2020 groupings. If you feel you have a compelling reason for your child to be placed with, or separated from another student, you can submit your request in writing to me at Jessica.Mann@education.vic.gov.au

Please submit any requests by Friday November 27th to enable teams to have enough time to consider them.

School tutoring program

I am pleased to announce that RNPS has been allocated just over $90,000 to fund the tutoring in school program for 2021. More details about how the program will be conducted, as well as how the recruitment process will occur are emerging, but we are excited at the possibility of having some extra funds to continue to support our students!

Prep 2021 Transition

As the rules around kinder-prep transitions have changed, we were so thrilled with finally being able to invite some of our incoming foundation students to come onsite in small groups. Today we had the first of several small group transition sessions, and it was so great to see excited faces coming in to meet the prep teachers and see their classrooms for next year. Our prep team have also been able get out and do some kinder visits this week which has been wonderful.

A reminder that enrolments are past due for 2021 Prep students. If you or a friend have a child that you would like to attend RNPS in 2021 but are yet to submit an enrolment, please do so ASAP.
