NUDE Food Day Report

This year, as we approached the end of Victoria’s second lockdown, the NEST leaders all brainstormed initiatives we could try out. One of the best initiatives we thought of was Nude Food Day, which happened on Thursday 12 November. Our goal was to not only minimize the amount of rubbish that was brought into the school via students’ recess snacks and lunches, but to collect data in the form of a diagnostic to see how many Nossalonians were bringing eco-friendly food.

After a hefty amount of organization, we had finally come up with roles and were fortunate enough to receive volunteers on the day, who

made posters, and the other volunteers, dubbed NFD NEST Representatives, to go around the school during tutorial that morning to collect the data and collated it to find a winning house and tute.

It was very close amongst all the houses but the results were:

Pegasus (54)

Garuda (31)

Griffin (25)

Phoenix (24)

Congratulations Pegasus for having the least waste! We endorse all of you to reuse, reduce, and recycle your waste. The tutorial winners from each house were: A2, N8, S7 and X3. Well done to everyone who got involved!

Although the day wasn’t as big a success as we initially hoped it would be, it was a learning curve, as we learnt a lot of things from it. As consumers we tend to buy goods and neglect the impacts that these have on our environment, and people think "one plastic wrapper isn't going to make a difference". However, if we all think like this, we will have more waste and not enough resources to reuse it, along with impacts on marine life.

As the year comes to an end, we still urge everyone to be as eco-friendly as possible. Have a safe and green holiday!
