UNDER 14 COLLEGE CRICKET ROUND 6

College hosted Coleraine in a one day game at Myrniong. College won the toss and elected to bat. Nick Gunn, having a ‘purple patch’ with the bat, was elevated to opener and scored twenty entertaining runs, before retiring. His opening partner, Oliver Wortley, also retired on twenty runs. Charlie Rivett and Hamish Boyd-Walsh were the next two batsman in and both played some glorious shots on their way to sixteen runs retired and twenty-eight runs retired respectively. Henry Bensch, after surviving being caught off a no ball made the opposition pay by helping himself to twenty five runs before also retiring.  Toby Barrie was looking solid, until he was unfortunately run out for six runs. Dougal Mann played his best innings to date, hitting some crisp pull shots to score nine runs. At the end of the innings John McEachern and Edward Beggs were not out as College amassed 153 runs off twenty four overs.

When College took to the field the bowling order was changed to resemble the opposite order to the batting, meaning that Johnny McEachern and Edward Beggs opened with the new ball. It did not take long for Beggs to rattle the batsman’s stumps, which he managed to do twice. Edward was in the game again when he then took a safe catch off the bowling of McEachern, as the two worked together to have Coleraine in trouble at three wickets down for just six runs. It did not get any easier for Coleraine, as no matter who was thrown the ball the College bowlers responded by bowling with control and accuracy. Dougal Mann picked up a wicket along with Hamish Boyd-Walsh who finished with two wickets for just one run. Charlie Rivett and Oliver Wortley cleaned up the tail and Coleraine was all out for eleven runs.

The team is up against St Andrew’s next round and they should be a much tougher opponent. However, the way the players are responding and improving with every game, the College team should feel confident that they can match it with the best teams in the competition.

Basketball

On Monday 28th November we held a special forum to discuss the vision for College Basketball moving into the future. It was pleasing to have many players, parents, coaches and managers in attendance and to be able to share in some positive discussions regarding the direction of Basketball in 2017. The proposed structure of teams at both the junior and senior level, and some new initiatives for 2017 were outlined on the night.  The slideshow with further information can now be found on the Intranet in the public sport folder in knowledge banks.

Tryouts and team selections will be held in early Term 1 for various junior and senior teams, as well as an information session for coaches and managers. More information regarding this will be given at a later date.

Any parents who are interested in coaching a team, at junior or senior level, that have not already expressed an interest, please email me at sbrabham16@hamiltoncollege.vic.edu.au

A reminder also that basketball expressions of interest must be back in before the last day of school for existing students. If not returned by this date, students will not be able to be placed into a team.

Netball

It has been a great season at Pedrina Park for our netballers this term.  We have a team in Grand Finals in every division - 13s, 15s and 18s!  (Please note that other teams still play this weekend as well.)

The action starts on court 1 at 8.30 with the Swifts aiming to defeat the Monivae Dolphins. Alannah Sander has done a great job coaching these girls, who have been committed to training each week. They have combined well throughout the season and we hope they can pull off a great win on Saturday.  The team is comprised of: Millie Dopheide, Arielle Dickson, Sophie Cunningham, Olivia Allen, Olivia Anagnostou, Kayla Sanders, Leo McGrath, Zoe Rudge and Felicity Hines.

Two other teams play off in their grand finals at 9.30.  The senior team, the Diamonds, play Baimbridge on court 1.  Coached by Miss Andrews, the team has had great success this season and we hope they can cap it off with a strong performance across the court on the weekend.  The team consists of: Emma Schwarz, Christine Woods, Brooke Mibus, Nikki Bedworth, Alannah Sander, Kate Delany, Sophie Hines, Amy Waters, Valentina Marchant and Amy Steer.

Over on court 3 the Vixens face off against Monivae Gems.  A big thank you goes to Tamara Murray, who put her hand up to coach one of our teams this year.  This team has some very strong players and they have dominated their opposition this term. Let’s hope they can do it again this weekend!  The team is made up of: Billie Smitheram, Willow Sharrock, Siena Chandler, Ella Rees, Ellie Jeal, Juliet Page, Tillee Huf, Georgia Lehmann, Rebecca Watt and Victoria Chenoweth.

I thank the coaches – Nikki Bedworth, Miss Amy Andrews, Alannah Sander, Tamara Murray, Kayla Sanders and Olivia Anagnostou (junior team) - for their efforts with training and coaching each week.

I would also like to acknowledge the parents who have been willing to commit to managing a team to help their children and the coaches to have a successful season – Nick and Kate Dopheide, Anna Delany, Susan Rees and Kerri Sander.  There have also been many parents on the sidelines each week and your encouragement of the teams has been most welcome.

Games don’t go ahead without umpires and it is great to have a group of people who are always willing to say yes to my requests.  Thanks to Kathy Mibus, Susie Holcombe, Amy Waters, Leo McGrath and Karen Huf.  It is really encouraging that we have some students who are willing to lend a hand and take the step into umpiring, giving back to the sport.

For your information, a 6 week season will start on February 11 next year. We would love to keep the teams as intact as possible so we ask the students to please consider recommitting for the next season.

Involvement from more parents in the various jobs, especially on the committee, would help to ensure that we have a continuing competition into Term 4 2017. Please consider getting involved.

Good luck to all players on the weekend!
