From the Head of Junior School
2019
As we close the gate on 2019, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every parent, student and staff member for their contributions to a wonderfully successful year. ‘May you be blessed with the spirit of the season, which is peace, the gladness of the season which is hope, and the heart of the season which is love.’ Have a safe and happy holiday and looking forward to seeing you all in 2020.
YEAR 5 CLASSES - 2020
We have completed the process of placing our 2020 Year Five students into classes. These will be distributed to parents via email and post this week. The teaching staff and I have considered parent requests, class and specialist teacher input and observations from Orientation Day. When sorting students into classes, we had to keep in mind the following balances; gender, learning profiles, House and social dynamics. Whilst is wasn’t possible to satisfy all requests, we feel the classes are fair, functional and well balanced. In the fullness of next year there will be many opportunities for both classes to work together. The bifold doors will be opened in the adjoining rooms to allow for differentiated group work in Mathematics, Literacy and Inquiry. Please be aware that the class lists have been loaded into our administration system, SIMON, and will not be changing. Whilst some students may not initially warm to their class placements, resilience, respect and optimism should assist them to make 2020 a fabulous year in Year Five.
SPORTS ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
On Tuesday last week, the Girls’ and Boys’ Hockey 7s teams were presented with the Wannon Australian Government Sport Achievement Award. The ceremony took place in Colac. Member for Wannon The Hon Dan Tehan MP presented the Team Achievement awards to the students. Year Six student Zoe Addinsall also received an Individual Achievement Award.
YEAR SIX DINNER
On Monday evening 140 parents, staff and Year Six students came together to celebrate the end of the primary school journey for our 38 Year Six students. The students did an amazing job of decorating the Refectory in a ‘Christmas’ theme. We were entertained with the ‘Year Six Ensemble’ who played Coldplay’s ‘Clocks’ and a Susan Davidson composition of Green Day’s ‘Time of Your Life’. The students were each presented with a portfolio of photographs, a certificate marking their visit to Parliament House and a list of positive affirmations anonymously written by their Peers. On reflection, after reading them all out, I can’t recall a more genuine and heart-felt set of comments from a Year Six cohort. The students summed each other up so very well. It was a great way to end 2019, and celebrate the return of Year Six to Myrniong. I must compliment the students on their table manners, behaviour, dress and also their singing on the night. Well done everyone.
SPEECH DAY
Thank you to all students, staff and parent helpers for a memorable 2019 Speech Day. The musical program was fabulous and allowed all students, Prep to Year Six, to take the stage and perform. The choir songs perfectly matched the occasion and the strings performances were top shelf. Evie Kennedy and Hugh Stratmann were announced as our 2020 Junior School Captains.
