Year 10: first aid

This term Year 10 students have been studying first aid during Health.

We have covered topics such as emergency management following DRABCS, dealing with bites, burns and bleeding and asthma management. The students have taken notes and participated in active first aid scenarios.

We will finish the term with students filming themselves re-enacting two first aid situations and submitting the script along with the first aid notes that guided their performance.

Outside of school and home, teenagers often have no immediate adult supervision and need to know how to recognise an emergency and call 000; in the meantime, it is good they have the confidence and ability to act quickly and deliver basic first aid while waiting for medical professionals to attend.

Participating in this course has provided them with this understanding, which we hope of course they will never need to use!

In addition to this they will be offered the optional chance to complete a one-day First Aid Certificate course early next term.
