Preshil's
Winter Holiday Program
Preshil has been running outstanding STEAM electives for several years now and is very
keen to offer these opportunities during our
upcoming school holidays.
o Fashion & Costume Design with Jennie Spruch: Choose a design (or draw your own) and then turn it into a prototype garment for a mini figure or doll, or just for inspiration.
o Ceramics with Skye Gallagher: Ever wanted to design and make your own dinner set, or perhaps your own designer jewellery? Maybe you'd like to create your own fantastical creature from clay? In this activity you will learn a range of ceramic-making techniques.
o Tennis with Bill Madafferi: Bill provides coaching for many Preshil students of all ages and skill levels, beginners to advanced. We are offering the opportunity to enjoy a session in a relaxed and encouraging environment.
o Fencing with Pieter Leeuwenburgh: Students can experience the Olympic sport of fencing with a qualified coach and all equipment supplied. It is an intense sport with a very clear purpose, requiring a high level of both mental and physical speed and agility. However, it is also subtle and safe. A wide range of students can succeed as fencers.
o 3D Printing with Scott Phillips: Students will learn about workflow, the range of technologies, Kinect scanning and applications using CAD like ONSHAPE and TINKERCAD. 3D printing is liberating people’s creative imaginations and fueling innovation around the world.
o Arduino with Karl von Moller: Design, build and understand how a traffic signal works using Arduino, an open-source microcontroller we can program using a Mac, PC or Linux computer. The course is designed to provide an easy entry into understanding technology, programming in C, basic electronic theory and practices. It’s a great beginner project which needs no experience, just a willingness to solder, programme code and have fun with electronics.
o Kerbal with Adam Simon: Kerbal is a game designed to allow the player to experience the physics and complexities as well as the excitement and elation of building a rocket and piloting it into space, the magnitude of the universe and the imminent threat of explosions and death to those on board your craft. In the course, Adam covers a basic understanding of the physics terminology and concepts, the mechanical concepts of engineering a spacecraft, game interfaces, Ladder Logic Programming, long range navigation, aerodynamics, explosions and space! No experience necessary.
