Year 10 Report

It has been a busy term for Year 10 who have now completed their Junior Schooling.

Congratulations Year 10 on your diligence, efforts and achievements thus far. Remember, now is the time to put into place good study habits for Stage 6 which is just around the corner.

The Year 10 Dinner Dance will be held at The Coast Restaurant on Monday 17 December at 6.00pm. Please ensure payment is being made as the cut off date is not far away. On the topic of Year 10 Dinner Dance, members of the cohort have also been super busy helping me complete some fundraisers for the event with Sausage Sizzle being held several weeks ago and a staff car wash being our most recent achievement. A huge thank you to all those students who have been involved and who have worked tirelessly on the fundraisers, the Dinner Dance is going to be great!

Next week the Stage Six Prep Program kicks off for the students with an exciting week of Taster Lessons ready to go. I look forward to hearing about the experiences week by week.

Year 9 Report

As 2019 draws to a close I would like to congratulate Year 9 for their hard work and commitment to school activities. They have been working very hard on their final assessment tasks for the year and I have reminded them in year meetings of the importance of staying organized and working hard right up to the end of the term. This will ensure they commence their Year 10 RoSA year on the front foot, with some of their classes being determined by final year results. Not only that but many of the students are starting to seek part-time work and this report will be important in forming their resume, which employers will look at to gain a sense of a student’s work ethic. Attendance is also crucial as no employer wants to see unexplained absences in a potential employee.

Many Year 9 students have been in involved in extra-curricular activities such as SRC fundraisers, Interact, Illuminate and as STAR program mentors. The students have done an amazing job at assisting Year 6 students and helping to smooth the transition to high school. This role will be continued with their involvement in the Year 7 Orientation Day in a couple of weeks time. I am very proud of the leadership skills and empathy these students have demonstrated.

Year 8 Report

Year 8 have started their final term of Year 8 with motivation and excitement. They have been producing fantastic work in their classes. Student are encouraged to keep up their effort to the end of the year. We have our yearly Presentation Evening coming up in week 9 and it is very exciting to see all the fantastic things Year 8 have been doing throughout the year.

On Thursday 22 November, Year 8 had their careers day. Firstly, I would like to personally thank Mrs Cortaville-Smith for all the work she put into the amazing day. The students got to go to four work shops. The first was an assembly line. In here they learnt team work and how to follow instruction in a pressure cooker task. The second workshop was called 'The World of Work'. Student got to learn all about the new world of the workplace and everything that goes with that. The third workshop focused on student resilience skills. In this workshop student worked on their own understanding of their own personal resilience level, how to improve it, but also how important resilience is in the workplace. The final workshop was called 'Digital Footprint'. In this workshop students got to learn about how what they put on all of their social media profiles can have long term effects on their lives. Many students were surprised and really gained a lot of knowledge through this session. The students also go to meet the Area Supervisor from McDonalds, a student representative from Newcastle University and also a current Year 12 student. All spoke to the students about their journeys. The students were able to ask many valuable questions.

Keep up the good work year 8!

Year 7 Report

As always, there have been many exciting things happening for our amazing Year 7 cohort.

Our $20 Boss program culminated in the Market Stall day last Tuesday. The creativity of many students shone through and we may just have some future entrepreneurs among our group. It was pleasing to see all the students working well in teams and experiencing the world of small business. The students raised $350 for Coast Shelter. They will use the money to purchase items for Christmas Day celebrations for local families in need. Special thanks to all the students who paid money to pour water on my head, smear shaving cream on my face, throw a wet sponge at me or shoot me with a water pistol. This was a very innovative idea!

The Year 7 swimming program is now complete and students have shown great participation, behaviour and skill. Max Finn, Molly Cho and Karla Gardner have been particularly impressive and are to be congratulated on their efforts.

Many students have been busy designing and constructing Ancient Egyptian artefacts as part of their assessment for Global Awareness. The standard of these projects was extremely high with students clearly taking pride in their work. Special mention goes to Chase Aldridge, Decklan Rayner and Sage Sharman whose final products were outstanding.

Young Achievers students recently participated in the High Resolves incursion which promotes social justice and leadership. Our students have given positive feedback about this experience. Young Achievers students have also developed some amazing ideas in their Design Challenge.

Twenty Year 7 students will take part in the Brisbane Water Zone Sports Gala Day at Adcock Park next week. Students have been carefully selected as a reward for their consistent effort and outstanding behaviour throughout PE classes this year. Congratulations to these students, I’m sure they will have a great day.

As the end of 2018 gets closer, we will be rewarding the top ten Vivo earners by inviting them to an all expenses paid trip to Wet n Wild in Sydney. Congratulations to the following students who have consistently shown commitment, respect and responsibility throughout the year:

·         Lachlan Gunn

·         Alexander McGavin

·         Preeya Brown

·         Kalem Harris

·         Johnny Ma
