VCAA Examinations

The VCAA examinations are still running and although some Year 12 students are yet to finish their final examinations I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate all Year 12 students on the way they have finished the year.  From the way they celebrated in their final week which included their dress up day to the way they have approached their studies during SWOTVAC and their conduct in the examinations, all have been incredibly positive.  We had a wonderful celebration with students, families and teachers at the 2018 Graduation Night at the San Remo Ballroom on October 22 2018.  This was an opportunity for us to thank the Year 12 students and their families for their support and contributions to the school over the last six years.

Building Project

It is with pleasure I inform you that all of our building works will be complete in December.   F block is receiving the final touches and this is the last area of renovation for our building works.  F block is a major part of our school in terms of size  and to begin 2019 with F block opened will very much feel like we have a new school.  I look forward to inviting you to view it in the near future.

Student Tours

In this edition of The Brunswick Star we have reports from  both the Victorian Young Leaders to China Tour and the Central Australia Tour, both wonderful opportunities for our Year 9 and 10 students.  Processes to select the Year 9 students who will represent our school at the Victorian Young Leaders to China Tour next year have just concluded and School Council has approved the Central Australia Tour for Year 9 and 10 students going ahead again in 2020.   Our 2018 Italy Tour leaves next week and we wish the nineteen students from Year 8-11 and the three accompanying teachers - Stefania De Meo, Kate Altomare and Anne Siciliano - all the best for what is sure to be a wonderful experience.

Our participation in the Great Victorian Bike Ride is also upon us and I would like to congratulate Miranda Rose on her fine achievement in seeing our participation come to fruition.  Miranda who is now in Year 10 first presented this idea to School Council last year and she has worked tirelessly to make the trip happen.

Making History

Congratulations to Isabella Harding (Year 10) for her outstanding achievements in the 2018 National History Challenge.

Isabella submitted an essay on The Impacts of the Supporting Mothers' Benefit in Australia.

Her hard work and commitment was rewarded when she was announced the winner of

  • Year 10 Victorian Young HIstorian of the Year
  • Year 10 Category winner
  • Women's History Category winner

Additionally, Meredith Walker and Georgie Walker each earned the Silver award in the Year 10 Category.

Well done to all the students on a wonderful effort and well-deserved rewards.
