PATHWAYS & CAREERS REPORT

MS SALLY LOONEY & MS BRENDA BRADY - PATHWAYS TEAM

Many further education providers have April school holiday events planned for students who want to find out course information.  We strongly urge our VCE students check University websites and make the most of these events –  especially as many of these opportunities did not run last year.

A few Universities held virtual Open Days last year and have provided us with links for students to search courses or study are they are interested in.

Work Experience – Australian Defence Force (ADF)

Students who are keen to explore Defence Force careers can apply to do a work experience placement in a number of different areas. These are highly sought after placements, so interested students are encouraged to apply online at  www.defence.gov.au/WorkExperience

Construction Induction (White Card) Training

A legal requirement for students wishing to do a Work Experience placement with a tradesperson who would be working on a construction site, must first obtain a Construction Induction Card (White Card).  There are six places available for a course that will be held at school on Tuesday, March 29th.  Interested Year 10, 11 or 12 students must let Brenda know as soon as possible to secure their place.  The cost is $120.00.

Year 10 and Year 9 Pathways Class

We have lined up several guest speakers this term to talk to our classes and explain their role and career pathway.  It is a great opportunity for students to learn more about these particular industries but to also have time to ask questions and clarify information provided.  We are very grateful that there are people in our community willing to give up their time and speak with our students.

10A students are doing an amazing job preparing for their work experience placements during the last week of Term 1. We ask parents and other family members to keep encouraging their students to ensure they are seeking the best option for them.

Year 9 students are working on their resume and application as many of them are seeking part-time jobs as they turn 15.  There are many opportunities available in Swan Hill and district and it great to see so many students keen to find some work.  Those students who already had a resume are learning the importance of keeping their resume up-to-date.
