Co-curricular - Junior Sport

Well, the weather never seems to stop interrupting sport sessions. It has been a constant battle for the boys just to get out at Recess and Lunch, let alone get sport training and play done. Thankfully, we saw some sunshine on Monday for the most part of the day and the Junior School were able to complete their Winter Sport Trials.

Having restricted space made the trials a little more compact than usual however, the boys took it all in their stride. There was a great display of skill throughout the day and across the codes, all boys put their best foot forward. Inevitably, there will always be some disappointment around the day’s events. All boys and parents/carers should be aware that the trials are the first stage of team selection. Over the first three rounds, boys will be assessed and allocated according to the skills and playing level they display. Effectively, this is an extension of our trial period. Once this three-week period is up, teams are confirmed, and no further allocation occurs. This helps the development of team dynamics and gives the boys an opportunity to ‘gel’ as a team.

I understand many of the boys have been unable to trial because of illness, injury and/or isolation. Please be aware that when boys return to school, I will allocate them to a team and the first three weeks of competition will be used to grade these boys appropriately.

All boys selected into a winter sport team should now be planning to purchase their playing uniform. An email will come out shortly with a uniform price list and order form. All boys are expected to have the correct playing uniform for the first game of the season which will be held on Saturday 30 April. Boys who do not have the correct uniform will not be allowed to take the field.

Junior School will also attend their Annual Supporter’s Day on Saturday 30 April. This is a compulsory event and any boy unable to attend will have another day scheduled for him. This is a great day where the boys get to support their fellow senior students in both the First XI Football and First XV Rugby Teams. Boys will need to arrive at the College no later than 1:15 PM and have their names marked off in the Powell Pavilion. From there, the boys will move on to the respective games. This is often the highlight of the season for many of the boys playing in the Firsts sides, and one they all look forward to. At the conclusion of the Rugby, boys will be dismissed to go home. Parents/carers are welcome to stay however they will be unable to sit with the Junior School group.
