The Stations of the Cross

Why do we celebrate Stations of the Cross?

The Stations of the Cross are an ancient tradition in the Catholic Church going back to the fourth century when Christians went on pilgrimage to the Holy Land. They would walk,  reflect and re-enact Jesus' final journey, when he carried his cross to Golgotha, the place of his crucifixion.

At Our Lady of Fatima we are celebrating the Stations of the Cross with our own pilgrimage or journey through our school. Each class is responsible for preparing a Station which will be displayed on classroom windows. The students will then journey through the Stations of the Cross where they will have the opportunity to read the story of each Station, spend time in prayer and finally finish each Station with a reflection. The Stations which are prepared specifically for children allow the students to follow the story of Jesus on his road to the cross. It reminds us that Jesus suffered with us and provides us with a call to action, how we can be more like Jesus as we prepare our hearts for Easter.

The Stations will be on the windows during weeks 10 and 11. All families are invited to experience the Stations of the Cross, a map of the stations has been provided below.

As a school we will be celebrating a whole school liturgy with reflections from each class on the Stations of the Cross.
