NAPLAN

NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 across the country. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken every year in the second full week in May. NAPLAN is not a pass or fail type test. Rather, it shows how individual students are progressing in numeracy and literacy against national standards set for all Australian school students. This data is just one isolated example of how St Paul monitors student progress, and complements classroom-based assessment. Year 3 and 5 families will receive more information in the coming weeks around these tests in May.

Recently, national and state education ministers agreed that all schools will transition from paper-based tests to the computer-based assessments. All schools are now mandated to undertake NAPLAN online by 2022. Next week, Year 3 and 5s will participate in a practice test which familiarise students with the testing interface and format of questions.

If you have any concerns about your child’s participation in NAPLAN in May, please email the relevant classroom teacher, myself at jfay@stpaulba.sa.edu.au or Danielle Nak at dnak@stpaulba.sa.edu.au
