Harmony Week 2022- College Value of Justice
This week the College celebrated Harmony Week around Harmony Day which is also connected to the International Day for the Prevention of Racism and Discrimination. The activities this week have been inspired by the work of our Student Representative Council, our SRC.
A theme over the past two years has been that of Respect for students to be considered in all their interactions with each other and with staff. This has brought to the surface very rich and educative conversations around racism, discrimination, bullying, misogyny and the need for all in our community to be safe. Everyone has that right.
This has to be lived every day, not just an annual event. That students have been able to reflect on their own behaviour through the themes of this week through the testimony of other students helps develop a sense of empathy which we want all in our community to have.
Our Gospel truths enliven our thinking on such issues. As I have asked the students a number of times. “How are you loving one another by your behaviour?” If there is racism, discrimination, bullying, misogyny and fellow students or staff do not feel safe, how are we loving one another?
We can't profess to stand for something and not live it.
The leadership our SRC has given has been very impressive and we look forward to more of their contributions as the year progresses.
