The Year 5/6 students are doing tie-dye next week. They will each need to bring in a white cotton item of clothing like a t-shirt, socks, canvas bag, etc. The item must have their NAME AND CLASS written in permanent marker on the tag. Students must bring their items to me in the Art Room on Thursday morning when they arrive at school.
The specialist teachers have introduced a new points system that rewards each class' collaborative behavior. In each specialist lesson the classes get a score out of 10 points which are added to the live leader board. The class with the most points at the end of the term will be awarded the Specialist Superstars Trophy to be displayed in their homeroom for the next term. The winning class will also receive a bonus specialist lesson in the last week of term. The exemplary behaviours being rewarded are:
Over the past fortnight, the Foundation students have been exploring patterns and lines. Firstly they searched for patterns they could see around the room and described them. Then they made their own patterns using red, yellow and blue paper squares.
In the line activity, the students looked at examples of lines found in nature then described lines they could find in the classroom. They students made a big class poster of lots of different kinds of lines, then added different lines in different colours to their art journals.
After completing the self-portrait collage "Every Face Has a Story, Every Story Has a Face" the students began work on Bubble Figures. Bubble figures are the first step in learning how to draw people in action poses. A Bubble Figure is made by drawing a stick figure, then adding shapes around the lines and shading them. Today the students will continue their Bubble Figures and make a 2-sided flip animation that uses 2 poses.
The Year 3/4s are completing a paper weaving lesson that focuses on line and pattern. After exploring the weaving technique of under over/over under to create a checkerboard pattern, the students will be extended to create more complex patterns using lines which are diagonal, wavy, thick, thin, layered and more. When the students have completed their weaving they will describe the lines and patterns in their work.
The Year 5/6 students are looking at microscopic organisms and then will complete a drawing task centered around space and shape. The students have explored organic lines and created a poster of different organic lines. They then used these lines to create a poster of patterns. These lines and patterns were used to add details to a torn-paper collage of microscopic organisms.
