Athletics Trials

On Friday March 11 all the Year 3 - 6 students travelled by bus down to Coburg Athletics Track for our annual athletics trials. One of the outcomes of the trials is to select students to represent the school at the District Athletics Carnival, however it is also a celebration of the learning that all the students have been experiencing in PE during first term. The students participated in Shot Put, Discus, Long Jump and Triple Jump as well as the 100m and 200m. For students who wanted to, they were also given the opportunity to run an 800m. The athletics team won't be finalised until Term 2 as the District Athletics Carnival doesn't take place until late August. Training will then take place during Term 3 in the lead up to the carnival.

Cross Country Trials

Last Friday March 18 the Year 3 - 6 students walked down to Zwar Park to participate in the school Cross Country trials. Each student completed two laps of the park which equated to 2km. It was terrific to see all students participating with the emphasis on students completing the course whether they walk or run. From these trials students will be selected to represent the school in the District Cross Country Carnival at Bundoora Park on Wednesday May 4.

Tennis Coaching

The school has been fortunate enough to receive a sporting grant to conduct tennis lessons during P.E. for the Year 3 - 6 students. We have engaged the services of Elite Tennis Academy to run the classes over the last four weeks of term.

Foundation

The Foundation students have begun P.E. lessons in the last few weeks since they started coming to school on a Wednesday. The initial focus has been very much on following instructions and learning to respond to basic stimuli. As the weeks go on they will slowly be introduced to other activities that involve equipment such as balls.

Year 1/2

The Year 1/2's have been learning to play team based games in the first weeks of school. They have also enjoyed tag based games. The focus now will begin to turn to learning basic skills, starting with striking a ball.
