A big thank you to all of the families who have read and have discussed the ICT User Agreement and Protocols at home.
On the last page of the User Agreement is a 'Family Screen Time Contract'. To add on from the 'Principal News' page, this contract is a great way to ensure ICT devices are used appropriately at home. Two points in the contract state:
1. School Nights & Weeknights -
Our family shuts down all our devices at __________ o’clock. The devices remain off until the next morning. Devices will not be turned back on until everyone has finished breakfast, and is dressed and ready to leave.
2. Alternatives to Screen Time
Our family recognises that too much screen time is unhealthy. As a family, we each have weekly physical and creative activities such as: ___ Sports
___ Music & Dance
___ Art
___ Reading for pleasure
Add your own special activities here: __________________________________________
These two points in the contract are really effective ways that devices can be used appropriate at home, and these appropriate measures put in place as a family are consistent.
The esafety.gov.au website is a fantastic resource designed for parents and children who use ICT and are connected to the internet. One page on the website, titled: Are they old enough' is designed to navigate key milestones for children while online. One link that we cannot recommend highly enough is: https://www.classification.gov.au/
This website outlines the legal ages and requirements for students to access certain games, websites and social media platforms.
Please note: According to the 'esafety government website', it states:
Each social media site and app has its own criteria for minimum age requirements. Most require users to be at least 13 years of age before they can register, although some sites are created especially for children under 13.
Please have a conversation with your child/ren at home and ensure that they are adhering to these requirements.
