Literacy
The preps have had a few big weeks at school with their first full week at school this week. They have been reading lots of Big Books and learning the letters and sounds 's', 'a', 'm' and 'f'. In writing we have been learning to recount what the children did on the weekend and draw and write about it, so you could have some discussions at home about your weekends to support their learning.
Maths
In Maths we have been doing lots of counting games and practising the correct number formation. We love doing Maths activities and we are learning to take turns and enjoy sharing lots of different Maths equipment like dice and counters.
Developmental Play
We continue to develop our oral language skills and develop our vocabulary as well as having fun and making new friends and sharing while we play in our classroom with blocks, in the kitchen, dollhouse in the shop and craft tables.
The prep students have settled into school so well, attending weekly assemblies, having buddy time and all their Specialist classes. Although they are tired, they have been incredible.
Thanks for your continued support and communication,

Year 1/2 Mass
We had a great turnout at Mass last weekend. It was so lovely to see so many families attend. The students did an Amazing performance of our song at mass and in school assembly on Friday and all the students were very well behaved.
Literacy
We have been doing our Daily 5 targeted Literacy groups using texts aligned with our Community Inquiry topic and more recently Lent.
Our writing focus has been on the structure of recounts and helping students to identify the purpose for writing a recount. We were also looking at sentence structure, types of sentences and punctuation.
Show and tell has commenced with some great presentations that are well prepared and organized. Thank you parents for your support.
Maths
In Maths we are looking at positional language and directions- forward, backwards, up down, left right, etc. In our targeted Maths groups we are focusing on counting strategies and mental computation such as doubling and near doubles.
R.E.
WE have had big focus on Lent this week exploring the history and meaning of Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, concluding with Mass. We explored the word 'sacrifice' and how we may have made sacrifices in our own small ways in our lives and how we can live more like Jesus during Lent.
Respectful Relationships
Our focus has been on teamwork and communication. Through a range of group and partner activities, the students identified what worked well when working with others and what didn’t work so well. This week we explored a scenario involving the word proud. Kids in groups had to brainstorm what could happen in their school day that they could be proud of. The responses prompted some really great class discussions.
Mindfulness and meditations continues to provide effective brain breaks between lessons and a means for calming down after lunch/recess.

Community Walk
Last Friday the Prep & 1/2 's went on a community Walk. They visited the library and
Police station. They had question time, saw police car sirens and they even gave us chocolates for being so amazing.
We looked at and discussed: how our community helps us, the role of people in our community and How can we show our gratitude to them?
Back at school we reflected on what we saw and who creates our community
(cafes, train station, pet shop for Michael, local doctors, nursing home)
Thank you to the parent helpers who came along, we couldn’t do this without you
Twosday
This was enjoyed by all prep and year 1/2 students, the students loved wearing crazy socks, making Twosday crowns, enjoyed a ‘Two’ Dance Party, and completing a range of literacy and numeracy activity around the number 2. The kit kats were a treat too!
