'Good manners and kindness are always in fashion'

Dear Sacred Heart families,

What an amazing two weeks of learning we have had  in our beautiful school. So many exciting things happening in and out of the classroom.

This week I have had the privilege to work with the 3/4 and 5/6 teaching teams to refine their  planning. This is an ongoing part of my role as the English and Learning Diversity leader. I also worked with the Learning support officers who do an amazing job in our school to support students with learning needs. Please keep an eye out for them as we welcome you into the classroom. We are so fortunate to have them. Last week I enjoyed hearing  the sweet sound of the 1/2 students down the hallway, rehearsing for  the year 1/2 Mass by singing an upbeat and lively song 'Got to sing, Got to pray' by Andrew Chinn. A huge thanks to the 1/2 teachers for preparing the students, thanks to the 1/2 students for singing in Mass and all the families who attended.  It's so lovely to start opening up our community again.

Bike Ed

It has been a brilliant week at Sacred Heart seeing our Year 3 and Year 4 students learning so many new skills on their bikes, with  a big focus on Bike Safety. The Year 3's learnt about stopping their bike safely playing 123 stop and Chaos Theory where they learn to navigate other people on bikes.  The year 4's had  a wonderful ride to Ricketts Point on Thursday in perfect weather conditions.  A huge thanks to Rik and his staff from Cycling Unlimited for running this program and to our parents who went on the ride and supported the adventure. We look forward to him returning in week 9 for our 5/6 Bike Ed program.

Twos day

Last week the Prep, 1 and 2 classes celebrated 'Twos day' on what was  a once in a lifetime date 2/2/22. They celebrated by making crowns, playing Maths games with 2 in the equation and halving numbers. 1/2P set up a trail of teddies and learnt to count by 2's to 862 which is an impressive effort. They also wore fancy socks and had a Dance party to celebrate. Thanks to Miss Rafferty our Prep-2 Leader for organising the day along with Miss Maloney, Miss Prosser and Mrs Brown.

Shrove Tuesday

It was such a fun morning working with some amazing year 6 students and parents to cook pancakes for our entire school on Tuesday morning. We are so grateful to Mr Blake our RE Leader  for organising the morning, shopping for ingredients and making it happen. A big thanks to our LSO Josh for being the batter King and all the parents for helping out too. Tim and I had a great morning cooking up a storm in the Library kitchen while Arriarne,  Karen and Mr Blake and Mrs Kehoe were cooking in the Mackillop Hall. I would like to highlight the exemplary students who stepped in to assist and did an amazing job. Betty KB, Imogen Mc, Ginger T, Jasper C, Frankie DH and Xavier D, so impressed with your cooking and organisational skills.  All funds raised go to the worthwhile cause for Caritas.

Parent helpers course

On Friday 18th March at 10am in the Mackillop Hall after assembly, I will hold a Parent helper's course for any parent that would like to assist in our school. We especially like parent helping in Literacy and Numeracy. This is a wonderful opportunity for your children to see you helping in the classroom and for you to have an insight into how our teachers teach and how students learn and how you can support them in their learning.  We really appreciate this support after an interrupted two years where we couldn't have parents onsite. I will send out an Operoo invitation to invite you to attend.

Uniform & Manners

Lastly I would like to commend students at Sacred Heart for their incredible manners on the gate every morning and afternoon  and as I wander around the school in and out of classrooms. I've also noticed a significant improvement in correct uniform and shoes being worn and hair neatly tied back. Keep up the great work as you represent our school whenever you are in uniform in and outside the school gates.
