Years 7/8 Girls Football Team

Years 7/8 Girls Football

Year 7/8 girls football in Nathalia was a day of laughs and learning. Our first game against Echuca College allowed the girls to slowly get used to the physical side of the game. The excitement amongst the group when they realised they were allowed to tackle was evident when we took on Kyabram P-12 in our second game. This was our first win and took us into the finals, playing for 3rd place. Unfortunately we couldn’t beat St Mary of the Angels, Nathalia in our final and suffered some last minute injuries taking the team down to 16 players.

The whole day was well received with lots of high fives, goals kicked and rules learnt along the way. Well done for giving it a go and providing the laughs. Mrs Sherman and Miss Dickinson have both lost their voices from the excited yelling and cheering from the side lines.

Year 8 Girls Soccer

Our Year 8 girls kicked off against St Mary of the Angels, Nathalia. It took a while for the girls to warm up with a strongly northerly wind making conditions quite fresh!

After conceding a goal in the first half, the girls continued to try and find an avenue to goal in the second but to no avail with the score finishing 0-1 to SMOTA.

The second game against arch rivals Kyabram P-12 was very entertaining. We had some great runs of play and all players were showing a great fight for the ball. Eventually a long ball over the top of the defensive line allowed Alannah in who pumped home our first goal of the day.

The final score ended 1-0 in favour of us!

Our last game was against Echuca College. This was a real fast paced game and both teams had some great chances to score. Echuca were able to take a one goal advantage and held onto this to take out the game 1-0.

An excellent effort by the girls playing with only 12 players for the day. Their team spirit and enthusiasm was great to see.

Year 7 Boys Soccer

Over the course of the day our Year 7 boys competed in three games. Our first game was against St Mary of the Angels, Nathalia. Despite having numerous opportunities to score throughout the game, the boys did not manage to put one in the back of the net, unfortunately losing 2-0.

Game two saw the boys up against St Joseph’s College, Echuca. The boys conceded a goal early in the piece which looked to be a bad start to a game that would turn ugly. For the remainder of the half the boys held on and went into the break at 0-1. The second half had the boys wrestle back some momentum, before a piece of individual brilliance from Archie Watt saw him run away from the defenders, before beating the keeper one on one in the box, a great goal to steal the draw.

Lastly, the boys came up in the battle of Kyabram against Kyabram P-12. The boys scored early with Billy striking one into the back of the net. From there the boys found themselves down 1-3. An individual piece of brilliance from Brodie saw the boys get back within striking distance with the boys down 2-3 with 5 minutes left. As time wore thin, the ball trickled to the feet of Archie who ran past another defender before slotting one into the top of the goals, adding his second goal of the day and clinching another draw for the boys in the dying moments.

Overall, the boys had a great day together and put together a few great games of soccer. Well done boys.

Year 5-12 Cross Country

A warm and sunny day greeted our cross-country runners when they arrived in Echuca last Tuesday for our annual cross-country run. All Years 5/6 students and a select group of Years 7-12 students attended the event at Victoria Park. Competitors ran the beautiful 3km track along the river and took in the great scenery along the way. Thank you to all the students who attended and supported this event as well as the staff and student helpers who came and assisted in a variety of roles on the day.

Augustine house came through with the most points and secured first place!
