Year 11 Animal Production Systems

Students are completing a sustainability land use task at the old Harvey Ag site in Harvey.  Students are required to consider and understand what sustainability represents, the land use rules, their surrounding environment and their neighbours when completing this task.

To be sustainable, you need to be looking long-term for it to be financially viable, beneficial to the surrounding environment, soil, water and biodiversity. The land use also needs to be socially accepted by your community/neighbours/local businesses and results in good mental health for the landowner.

Year 11 Gen 1 and Gen 3

Students spoke with Mr Howell and Mrs Day about the piece of land selected at the old Ag site.  They took soil profiles and made notes on where the water points and infrastructures were located.

Next week students will use the DPIRD Natural Resource WA website to obtain information on the old site's soil, land qualities and capabilities.  They will then select an enterprise that they would like to run on the property.
