Prep & Grade 1

We have commenced the term by continuing to practice and refine the basic fundamental skill of ball handling. The main focus being on throwing and catching using underarm and chest passes, as well as introducing the overarm throwing technique for distance. Experiences also included using hands to make a catch, as well as other catching apparatus (see pictures below). I cannot stress the importance of this fundamental skill and building that hand eye coordination, so I highly encourage additional home practice where possible. Other activities coming up this term include bouncing and a range of striking experiences using different implements for batting.

Grades 2/3-6

It has been just amazing to have students complete the ‘Beep Test’ as a measure of their own fitness levels. The gains have been so pleasing. Most students achieved above their personal goal of improvement. Prior to the assessment task, a target that was set by myself with each individual based on their previous scores noted earlier this year. We haven’t been able to note any growth due to the incomplete reviews from the Covid years. Last week, students were introduced to Lacrosse. We attempted a range of drills using the stick to develop our catching, throwing, and scooping skills. For most it was a new experience, and from the feedback, an enjoyable one! The remainder of the term will be focused on a range of striking sports using various implements for batting, such as badminton, rounders, tennis and hockey.

Running Club News

What a wonderful year of contributions from our young and passionate runners at AGPS. Luckily, we have had a consistent program with the acceptable weather for Monday mornings. A BIG shout out to Jensen Wheeler of 4/5J for clocking over the 100km mark! Well done! I can see that there are a number of others closing in on this amazing target before the year is out. Keep it up everyone! I do hope to offer both Mondays and Fridays for any eager students from late November leading up to the end of the year. Not compulsory, just optional extra. Stay tuned for further details!

Victorian School Sports Update

Thank you to our 12yr Boys and Girls Basketball teams who competed at division level to challenge other Hobsons Bay district winners. It was a tough encounter but a wonderful experience for all our players. Well done children!

An outstanding achievement to the following individual students: Milos C (12yr boys high jump, long jump), Luca B (11yr boys 100m, 200m), Jensen W (10yr boys 1500m) and Harriet C (10yr girls 800m) to make it to the next level of difficulty, that few can claim-the Western Region Athletics championships. We are so proud of you and your personal sporting success thus far. This was held on Tuesday 18th of October. Needless to say, Jensen came away 1st with a personal best time of 4:56 in the 1500m. Wow! Great run!
