A Message from David & Cam...

A.G.P.S. Recycling Challenge

Abby and Izzy from 4/5A approached me late in Term 3 with concerns about the amount of rubbish in our school. They decided to promote recycling as a way to reduce the waste by planning a recycling challenge for the whole school. They carefully planned how they would run the challenge and how they would ensure their message was getting across to all the students. So far they have presented at assembly, created new signs for the bins to educate everyone on what can be recycled, create posts for seesaw with updates on the challenge and conducted weekly bin weigh-ins - all in their own time!

The challenge finishes next Friday and the winning classes will be announced at assembly.

We have been most impressed with the effort that Abby and Izzy have put into making this challenge work and their contributions to making our school a better place - Amazing effort, girls!

Logan's Ride

Logan in 4/5A recently completed the 50km cycling leg of Around the Bay! This is a tremendous effort for anyone (let alone a 10 year-old!) and equally impressive was that his younger brother Lucas also completed the 50km ride! Logan took up this challenge to raise important funds for a really important organisation - HeartKids. HeartKids has been a wonderful support to Logan and his family (and countless other families) and incredibly Logan was able to raise over $3000!! What an amazing achievement, Logan - we are all so proud of you.

Thank you to all that supported Logan with either encouraging words and/or donations to HeartKids. Logan told me that he has his sights set on completing 100km next. I am sure he will smash this goal too!

Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey

We have recently received the results of the Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey that many of you completed in Term 3 (thank you!). As mentioned previously, this survey is an important data set for us as we plan for the continual improvement of our school.

Pleasingly, the feedback that you have provided is very positive and solidifies many other sources of evidence that highlight the strengths of our great school. Also pleasing to see was that most items within the survey received a higher percent positive endorsement than previous years (which was already very positive!). Some of the highlights are:

  • School connectedness - 90%
  • Promoting Positive Behaviour - 91%
  • High Expectations for Success - 91%
  • General Satisfaction - 87%
  • and one of our favourites - Teachers are enthusiastic and positive about teaching - 93%

Thank you again for taking the time to complete the survey. Please do not feel you need to wait until the next survey rolls around if you would like to provide us with any feedback that you feel would make our school better. Feel free to come and see us, send us an email or give us a call anytime.

Premiers' Reading Challenge

At our most recent assembly, Amy presented all the students that completed the Premiers' Reading Challenge with their certificates. It was great to see so many students take up the challenge and get stuck into some good books! There were X amount of students across the school that completed the challenge.

Thanks to Amy for arranging this for our students and thanks to the parents and staff that promoted and supported this.

Student-Led Lunch Clubs

We are really proud of students when they show initiative and come up with ideas that benefit the whole school community. This year we have seen a large increase in the number of students interested in running their own whole school lunch time club and I have been inundated with many ideas and plans for clubs that offer a wide range of activities for the students in the school to enjoy.

This term we are really proud to say that ALL of the lunch time clubs have been created, planned, organised and run by dedicated groups of students! These students commit a significant amount of time to make their clubs run smoothly, take on feedback from the staff that supervise and continue to improve their clubs for the benefit of our school.

Parent Request - Final Reminder

If you have any requests for class placement for next year or have any information that you feel would be beneficial for us to know when creating the 2023 classes, please ensure that your requests are in writing and sent to me (david.king@education.vic.gov.au) no later than Friday 28th October. Please understand that I cannot take requests for individual teachers and that whilst all requests will be considered not all will be able to be accommodated. Please also note that requests made last year do not carry over and should be made again via email if you believe it should still be considered.

Please also note that all students are given the opportunity to list friends that they would like to be placed in a class with for 2023. This process happens with the class teacher later this term and we use this information when creating class lists.

A Message from our Principal and Assistant Principal for the day - Lauren and Havi

Hi my name is Lauren and on Tuesday the 18th I was the Principal for the day. It was a lot of fun being the boss and going in David and Cam’s offices. I also had an Assistant Principal, Havi. We had some delicious hot chocolate and did some work around the school like putting up the new lunchtime club posters, laminating them and sticking them up around the school, and observing all of the classes and giving some people KEFAR tokens. I also made an announcement! It’s a shame it’s over because I could do this every day. Havi and I also did yard duty at snack time, and Havi wore a hat with KEFAR on the top. It looked REALLY funny. It was totally worth the 150 KEFAR tokens. Other people should definitely try this because it’s a once in a lifetime experience, except if you work as a principal. Because who’s everyone’s best friend at school? The PrinciPAL!

A reminder that tomorrow is Grandparents and Special Person's Day. We cannot wait to welcome all those special people in our students' lives into our school as we have not been able to run this event for a couple of years. We are sure the kids will love showing their grandparents around!

Finally, we hope you all have a wonderful long weekend (for those that are lucky enough to have Monday off). Please remember that it is a pupil-free day on Monday and TeamKids is operating for those that need it.

Kind regards,

David & Cam
