Wellbeing

Pastoral Care

Welcome back to students and families to what will be a busy term, with sporting activities, camps and exams. I encourage you, as always, to contact me if you have wellbeing concerns for your children. I am here in my current role as Student Counsellor until the end of the 2022 school year. Throughout the term, I will be looking forward to introducing students to the new Counsellor and completing handover notes for a positive transition for 2023.

My message for students this term will be around making small changes to improve their overall health and wellbeing.   The visual below from Andrew Lines (The Rite Journey) is a powerful one, demonstrating that smaller steps can help us reach our goals in a much more efficient and successful way rather than big steps. When discussing self-care strategies, students will often say to me, but that sounds too hard. When broken down into smaller goals and activities, self-care can be very manageable and is so important for the mental health of our young people.

Smaller steps:

  • Go to bed 15 minutes earlier than usual
  • Exercise for 15-30 mins one extra time per week
  • Read a book or a magazine/newspaper rather than using a device
  • Eat an extra piece of fruit each day

I encourage all students to think about ways that they might be able to introduce one small step into their daily lives to improve their health and wellbeing.

Have a fabulous Term 4!
