Classroom & Curriculum News

What a day!! We ended Term 3 with a wonderful celebration of the Italian language and culture.  Thank you to parents and grandparents for celebrating this day with the children and joining in and having fun.   It was great to see our school community coming together and enjoying the day.  Thank you to parents and children and staff for your wonderful, creative, colourful costumes to embrace Italian culture.  Thank you to the parents who helped out on the day as well as  with the grand jelly sale and the pizza checkpoint.  Thank you to all the staff  for your enthusiasm and support.

The children had so much fun,  participating in a number of activities as such; singing and dancing to popular Italian music, playing soccer and bocce, playing games in the Italian room, relays, story-time (Strega Nonna and Olivia goes to Venice), art work (making the Italian flag with lasagna sheets and pasta, making the masks of Venice, sketching Italian landmarks) etc etc..  Then the entrance of the gelati van!  What excitement it brought to the atmosphere!  And then for the big surprise of the arrival of the red Ferrari.  The children couldn’t wait to get a photo with the Ferrari.

Thank you again to everyone for a wonderful day.  Check out some Snap shots of the day and videos.  There are so many wonderful photos and videos which are impossible to add all to the newsletter.  Enjoy!

Stephanie Alexander Garden Program

After the raised garden beds were erected and filled with soil and plenty of compost and manure mixed through, they were ready for the seedlings to be planted. Keen class captains from prep to grade 5 got their gardening gloves on and carefully transferred the plants from their pots into the soil. They planted; silverbeet,  Tomatoes, Rocket, Bok Choi, Snow peas and Carrots. They watered and added a thick layer of mulch. The garden was possum-proofed with visual, sound and smell deterrents(reflective owls with bells attached, mothball traps, motion sensor solar lights).Over the school holidays Laura,Poppy and the holiday program kids in OSH cared for the garden and even added some sunflower seeds! Pearl’s worm juice was watered in to give everything a boost.Three weeks later the plants are happy and thriving. The rocket is ready to be picked and the Bok Choi will be ready in the coming weeks. The garden is for everyone to be part of and enjoy. Any students who would like to be part of the garden group, or even help out occasionally should see Mr Stead.

Student Achievement- Fraser 5/6B

It is wonderful when we hear our students are doing great work outside of school! At the beginning of September, Fraser (5/6B) worked along side his mother Emily and his siblings at a Charity Fundraising event at Crown. All money raised on the night went towards supporting cancer patients and families with their education and accommodation while having treatment. Fraser and his siblings did an amazing job selling raffle tickets to over 400 guest. Such a wonderful effort Fraser, you should be very proud!
