Term 3: Sports Report

REGIONAL SOCCER

Across two consecutive weeks in late July and early August, our Year 7 Girls and Boys Soccer teams represented the school in the Regional Soccer Championships.

The Boys team were competitive in two of their pool games and suffered a heavy defeat against the very talented Rowville Secondary College in the other; who went on to win the competition.

The Girls team performed exceptionally well across the day, winning all of their matches and progressing through to the final. Unfortunately, they felt short at the last hurdle, losing 2-0.

Thank you to Steve Macrae and Zane Fernandes for their commitment to training these teams.

REGIONAL GIRLS BADMINTON

On Friday August 12th, our Year 8 Girls Badminton team of Vanessa Sadjoli, Miu Morita, Sarina Farajichalehzamini and Bianka Covelli competed in the Regional Championships event.

The girls dominated their pool and finished in first place, whre they played Balwyn High School in the semi-final. In a highly competitive match, each team won three matches each. Unfortunately, we lost by 11 points on count back.

The team played at a high standard throughout the day and represented the school superbly.

INTERMEDIATE INTERSCHOOL SPORT

On Thursday, August 18th, we had 35 Year 9 & 10 students represent the school in the Intermediate Interschool basketball, hockey and table tennis competitions. Our hockey team provided the stand out performance from these competitions, qualifying for the final and narrowly losing in the dying stages 1-0.

JUNIOR INTERSCHOOL SPORT

On Monday, September 5th, we had over 120 Year 7 & 8 students represent the school in the Junior Interschool basketball, hockey and table tennis competitions. At the conclusion of all matches, our Year 8 hockey team, year 7 boys table tennis and year 8 girls table tennis teams won their competitions to qualify for the Regional Interschool competition in October. Our Year 7 and 8 Boys Basketball teams had to win their final match to qualify, but both teams just fell short.

MONASH DIVISION ATHLETICS

On Tuesday, August 23rd we sent a team of over 40 students to the Monash Division Athletics Carnival at Knox Athletics Track. All students showed fantastic effort and were extremely competitive in their events. This led to some outstanding results, with 13 students qualifying for the Regional Athletics Championships on Monday, October 10th.

A special mention to Sophie Volpert and Patrick Small, who won the medal for age group champion at the 12/13 level.  And also to Tricia Santosh (400m) and Will Amiatu (Shot Put and Javelin) for breaking Division records.
