Kitchen Garden

In the Kitchen

Week 9 & 10

Well, somehow we have reached the end of the term!!

The Kitchen classes have spent the past 2 weeks using excess produce from the garden and this week in particular it has been all about...

...CUCUMBERS, CUCUMBERS, CUCUMBERS!!!

We prepared cucumber 3 different ways and they each tasted completely different.

I was super glad to finally teach the children how to make Sushi! We filled the centers with cucumber, carrrot and celery and it they turned out perfectly.

Alongside the sushi, we made a pickled cucumber salad... those sour tastes gave our taste buds a little party! Not only that, but we also tried to eat our salad with chopsticks! It was fun to try!

We finished with a cucumber and apple juice so we could use the very last of the apples from our tree and also a gorgeous little Easter treat: Chocolate Easter Nests.

These Easter treats are super simple and would be a great thing to try at home. All recipes are listed below.

Here are our weekly recipes;

Wishing everyone a wonderful Easter and a restful holiday. Stay safe!

Garden News

Well done to our Green Thumbs garden crew who last week organised their first garden stall,

which they set up in the Plaza. They planted up the plants that they sold as well as some produce from the garden,

In our 5 /6 garden lessons we worked on cleaning our pond area,  pruning back some of our native grasses and trees as well as clearing excess leaf litter from the water, we also had time to check what water creatures we could find.

It was all hands on deck with our 1 /2's to pull out and replant their veggie beds.  A variety of veggies were planted including snowpeas, bok choy, broccoli and lettuce.

Rolly our school rabbit has been meeting our students , while Olivia, Ruby and Nay Nay our chickens have enjoyed their pats and sunflower seed treats.

Thankyou for a another wonderful term in the garden.  Wishing you all a restful Easter and a fun school break.

Happy Gardening.
