Learning Support

Learning support

Learning support is in full swing this term with additional support being provided in classrooms through differentiated learning, additional help from our wonderful team of Learning Assistants and small group Literacy, Mathematics and Social Skills intervention sessions.

Our desire here at WCC is to see each child happy and achieving to the best of their abilities. At a previous Chapel service, I spoke to the students about empathy. I explained that empathy was “Being able to understand and share the feelings of others.” We watched a short film about a young boy named Ian who was in a wheelchair and wanted desperately to play with others, but each time he tried to join in, other children would laugh at him and remind him of his physical limitations. I asked the children to remember that we also have students here at WCC with disabilities, some are obvious, but others are “invisible”. We discussed how some students have difficulty with learning, others with social interactions and others have physical conditions/limitations. In the Bible in the book of Matthew it says “Love your neighbour as yourself.”  This week it has been wonderful to see the children working on demonstrating empathy towards those around them and demonstrating Christ’s love towards their fellow students.

Lego wanted!

Do you have any unwanted Lego lying around your house? We would like to begin a Lego lunch-time club for students and would like any spare/unwanted Lego donations. For the next two weeks there will be a plastic tub out the front of the office where you can place donations. Thank-you!
