VET Pathways & Workplace Learning

Year 11 & 12 Workplace Learning

Monday 22 until Thursday 1 June 2023

All forms should be returned by Friday 28 April.  Next term students will spend a session understanding the purpose of WPL, the expectations of them in the workplace and what will be occurring in Semester Two.

A few things to note:

If your child is unwell, please advise the WPL supervisor and myself as soon as possible.  Please provide a medical certificate to be recorded against the time that is absent.

Your son will receive a logbook the week before WPL - This will need to be taken in to work every day and signed off by the supervisor.  If they don’t complete this document, then they will not receive a credit towards graduation.

All information regarding WPL was sent out earlier this term. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

 I&E Workplace Learning

Last week the Year 10 Industry & Enterprise students participated in their first work experience.  The boys enjoyed a range of occupations in a variety of different settings. These included heavy diesel mechanic, light vehicle mechanic, carpentry, boilermaking, electrical, environmental rejuvenation.

I want to congratulate the boys for the amazing feedback that was received from the employers about their positive attitudes, ability to follow workplace instruction, how they used their initiative and how they weren't on their phone! Thank you to all the businesses that allowed the boys to have a wonderful experience.

If you are able to assist our WPL program, please feel free to contact me.

 Skippers Ticket

Eight boarding students had the opportunity to gain their Skippers Ticket with Australian Boating College. The boys were put to the test to see if they understood the marine rules, what to do in dangerous situations and how to operate a safe watercraft.

 Barista Training

Year 11 & 12 students had the opportunity to visit the Perth Barista School this week. The course introduced the boys to the exciting world of coffee, from growing and roasting, to brewing and serving the perfect cup. They explained and demonstrated the techniques required to create café quality coffee. The boys were able to practice using the commercial coffee machines to perfect their new coffee making skills. We look forward to trying out these skills on the 'U Bean Café' at the Open Day, morning meet ups and the Athletics Carnival.
