Birdman Rally!

Birdman Rally!

Again this year, the Year 9 Leadership Class of Frankston High School is taking part in the Birdman Rally, a charity event taking place as part of the Moomba Festival on Sunday, March 8th. The LEAD class will be supporting Dogs for Kids with Disabilities, and trying to raise as much money as we can!

The Birdman competition takes place at Birrarung Marr, and it is a competition where people jump off a platform in their ‘craft’ and land in the Yarra River - the point is to try to ‘fly’ as far as possible. Some groups use their engineering skills to come up with a human-powered aircraft to glide above the water, to get as far as possible in the Eagles category. Others dress up in crazy homemade costumes for the Penguins category, which is judged just by how much money the person or group has fundraised, and they just jump into the river as far as they can in their wacky costume. We will be participating in the Penguins category!

We are really excited to be supporting Dogs for Kids With Disabilities (DKD), which is a not-for-profit organisation, providing Assistance and Companion dogs to children with autism spectrum disorders. and other developmental disorders. Each of the dogs are specially trained to accompany their child, and help them to live life to the fullest! These dogs are trained to prevent bolting, decrease self-harm behaviours and reduce melt-downs, as well as help children, sleep better, reduce anxiety and build communication skills.

The Frankston High School Leadership class is looking forward to sponsoring DKD to raise money to help train dogs to assist young Australians. We need a raise at least $500 to participate in the Birdman Rally – but we are hoping to exceed this target! We would really appreciate any donations to this amazing cause. If you are able to help us in our adventure and donate to the cause you can find our Go Fund Me page here:
