Students With Medical Conditions

Parents are reminded to advise the school of any change in diagnosis and treatment of their child’s medical conditions immediately.

The school is prohibited from administering any over the counter medication, including panadol and antihistamines.  If you would like your child to have access to these, or any other medications, you must have provided it, with your child's name and form, to the First Aid Attendant.

Mrs Christine Dawe

First Aid Attendant

Student Insurance

Parents are reminded that Department of Education and Training (DET) and Frankston High School do not provide personal accident insurance for students.  Parents and guardians are responsible for the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including transport costs.

Students’ accident insurance policies are available from the private insurance market. These cover a range of medical expenses not covered by Medicare. They can be obtained by parents for individual students.

Parents of students at Frankston High School are reminded that Frankston High School does not have a whole school policy.

Belongings at School

Students are advised not to bring personal and expensive belongings to school other than equipment required for learning.

Frankston High School Council does not have the authority to reimburse parents or replace students’ personal belongings that are lost or stolen.  This can include mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises.  As the Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property, students and staff should be discouraged from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school.

Students must always ensure personal belongings are placed in their lockers and then locked with their padlock.

Mrs Carolyn Florance,

Business Manager

Mobile Phone Policy

In June 2019, the Minister for Education announced a new Mobile Phone Policy that will come into effect from Term 1 2020.

In accordance with the Department of Education and Training (DET) requirements, Frankston High School has developed a Mobile phone policy which is attached below.  To uphold this policy the following guidelines are a summary of the school’s expectations in 2020 and onwards across both campuses of our school:

  • “mobile phone” refers to mobile phones smartwatches and any device that may connect to or have a similar functionality to a mobile phone such as smart watches.  Please note, that since earphones are commonly connected to mobile phones they will not be allowed during the school day.
  • Students who bring mobiles phones (and earphones) to school must have them switched off and securely stored in their lockers throughout the school day, unless they are exempt from this rule due to individual circumstances or the teacher has given express permission for use for educational purposes.
  • The school day starts when the student has entered the school, therefore students once at school are not to be using phones or earphones whilst waiting for their first lesson or during any breaks regardless of the time of day.
  • Parents are not to contact their children during the school day on their mobile devices.  Should they wish to speak with their children they can ring the General Office and the student will be able to speak to them via a school phone.

Students who use their personal mobile phones inappropriately at Frankston High School will be issued with consequences.  The hierarchy of consequences is attached below.

Hats Compulsory during Sport Ed and PE

From the beginning of the 2020 school year, students must wear navy blue hats without any identifying logos for Sport education and PE.  Such hats can also be worn to and from school as part of the uniform if the student chooses to.

If a student attends PE without the school uniform hat then they will be supplied with a hat for that lesson.  If a student is wearing a non uniform hat it will confiscated and other consequences may apply.  Hats with Frankston High School Logo are now  available for sale in the Uniform Shop.

Student Supervision Before and After School

Please be aware that teachers are on duty in the grounds on the:

7-10 Campus: from 8.30am before school and  until 3.40pm after school.

Senior Campus: from 8.00am before school and until 3.40pm after school.

It is advisable for students to arrive at school after supervision begins unless they have:

  • scheduled class time,
  • a planned activity (eg semper squad) or
  • attending one of the school clubs (eg some posters below).

Please note that some buses leave after the conclusion of yard duty.  Students are expected to behave in a responsible manner when in school uniform, before and after school.  The public often contact Frankston High School to comment on the excellent behaviour of students in public areas.

Breakfast Club is due to commence 17 February.

Compass Card

2020 Frankston High School Compass Student cards will comply as a (Public Transport Victoria) PTV Approved School Student ID card. This will mean that parents or students will not have to arrange for an additional student ID card for public transport which is a saving of $9.00. The new cards will arrive in March after 2020 student photos have been taken. All the more reason students need to keep them in a safe place.

Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) helps ensure that no student misses out on the opportunity to join their classmates for important educational and fun activities.  It is part of making Victoria the Education State and the Government's commitment to breaking the link between a student's socio-economic background and their achievements.

CSEF will be provided to eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities.

If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF.  A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families.  The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

The annual CSEF amount per student is:

  • $125 for primary school students
  • $225 for secondary school students

You can apply by contacting the General Office to obtain a CSEF application form or download from the CSEF website.

All applicants must complete and lodge their submission by 5 March 2020

LATEST UPDATE:

Coronavirus

3 Feb 2020

The Commonwealth’s Chief Medical Officer and Victoria’s Chief Health Officer and the Department of Education and Training’s (DET) most recent advice is that any student returning from mainland China (not including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) who was in mainland China on or after 1 February 2020 is to be isolated at home and should not attend school until 14 days after they were last in mainland China.  Frankston High School is following such advice.  At the moment no International students who were planning to leave China and return to Frankston High School on or after 1 February 2020 have been permitted to leave China.  When they eventually return, we will follow the most up to date DET advice.

Introducing WoW! – Words on Wheels Initiative

In order to support the teaching and learning of all staff and students in the VCE Campus, a mobile library will be bringing VCE texts, study guides, support material, study skills advice and a shoulder to cry on (just kidding!) to the Presentation Space in 2020. While hours will be limited initially to Thursday, our Teacher Librarian Tonia Hast and incredibly helpful Librarian Michelle Snooks will always be available for online advice and requests for print and digital resources. Remember, Homework Club is open to ALL students in the JRC from 3.30 to 4.30 from Tuesday to Thursday.

Study Tip No. 1

Do you run out of time when you are studying? The key is to learn efficiently. This doesn’t just happen in SWOTVAC, it is a process that begins early in the semester. Use active learning strategies. Reading and listening is okay, but you will only remember 20 to 30 per cent of the information this way.

You can be an active learner by:

  • learning to be independent by becoming proactive -this means finding answers to things you do not know, and being aware of what you do not know in the first place.
  • be efficient – not going over and over the same material.
  • knowing your learning style - understanding how you learn best. If your learning style is visual, try drawing stuff to understand and remember things. Some people learn best by doing, so hands on activities help them to learn. Explaining things to others really helps [auditory learners] absorb information themselves.
  • organise your notes and your to-do list into categories - a long list is scary, and important things can get lost. Sorting things into groups is the brain’s natural way of remembering.

Semper Netball

Commencing 19 February

Hello All Players, welcome back to another fabulous year of Netball.

Netball Semper Squad begins 7.30am Wednesday February 19 on the synthetic courts and everyone is invited.  A dedicated group of students will be assisting in running drills and exercises and then we will be playing short games each week to work on teamwork.

These sessions and our regular Wednesday lunchtime practice games on the synthetic courts will help to create teams at all levels for Interschool Netball and the Term 2 and 3 competition in the Frankston League at Jubilee Park. We will not be joining the Term 1 Domestic League this year but concentrating on the winter competition. Our Wednesday lunchtime games will be played as an in-house competition.

Already over 50 students form Year 7 have expressed interest in playing, joining our 80 Years 8,9,10 and 11 players! We are really looking forward to seeing you all back on the court!

Crossing The Road

REMINDER TO BUS TRAVELLERS

All students who travel to and from school via the public buses are reminded to only use the black and white ‘zebra crossings’ on Towerhill Road and Foot Street to get to and from bus stops, before and after school.

Traffic is extremely congested on the streets before and after school.  It is not safe for students to cross the roads anywhere but the zebra crossings at any time, but especially before and after school.  Parents are asked to discuss with their children, the importance of this matter.
