Principal  Message

Hello everyone,

As we return to fulltime school, all the students and teachers have quickly settled back into a routine. Thank you for your support, as I know they are coming home tired and that mornings might be a little harder at the moment as they adjust to waking up early again.  We have noticed the students are really tired after lunch, but as they build their stamina the days will get easier for them.

We have hit the ground running with a few things happening for our students.

This week we saw the first of the Active Travel Month at Warrandyte PS. The program has been developed to help encourage students of Warrandyte Primary to walk, bike, scoot, skate or park & stride safely to school.

Each participant will also receive a certificate acknowledging their participation. We encourage as many participants as possible.  Thanks to Nikki and Rick for helping to get this program up and running so quickly after our return to school.

We have been expanding our outdoor passive play areas and activities. Giant Jenga and Giant Dominos have been added to our outdoor fun and will form part of our lunchtime clubs once we restart those up for our students.  Our Giant Chess pieces have also arrived for our students to use outdoors.

We have also set a few dates to put in your calendar as we approach the end of the school year.  The production is set to go ahead on the 13th December and will either be at the George Wood Centre or performed at school with an outdoor stage and lighting set up.  As soon as we receive updated information about restrictions we will make a decision but it is likely we won't know anymore about this until a couple of weeks before the performance. We appreciate your patience and thank Kirsty and the teachers for working hard to give our students a Warrandyte PS production experience.

We will be holding our Final Assembly in that final week of school, on Wednesday 15th December.  This assembly will have our 2021 student leadership formally handover to our incoming 2022 leaders and we will also be giving our Bushband a chance to perform the songs they have been working on all year but have not been able to publicly perform yet. We have a few staff members that are retiring at the end of the year and we would like to use this special assembly to pay tribute to the work they have done here.  At the end of the year, we are saying goodbye to Cathie Brooks, Jenny McDonell, Cathy Lucas and Wendy Farr, all of whom are entering a new chapter of their lives in retirement.  I am very hopeful that by this time, parents will be able to attend and be part of this special assembly.

We also know that there will be Community Carol's being performed on the 18th December at Stiggant's Reserve.  Kevin O'Mara will be performing and students are invited to join him on the night. More information around this will go out as it flows in to us from the organisers.

I hope you have had a successful transition out of lockdown and please remember to contact us if your child/ren need any support transitioning back to school.

Take care,

Nieta
