Grade Two

It is hard to believe the year is almost over! What an amazing effort from all our students for continually showing such positivity towards their learning on the return to school, and finishing the year on such an amazing note.

Literacy

In Literacy, students have been focusing on Narrative writing and Poetry. Students have continued to work through the writing process with their narratives and are becoming more fluent in editing and revising their work. During our reading lessons students have been identifying features of poems and then transferring these skills to writing lessons with creating poems of their own. We have explored Acrostic, 5 sense and Haiku poems. They continue to read independently on a daily basis and are developing their ability to read with increasing fluency and expression.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have been exploring a range of topics including Time, Money, Shape as well as Addition and Subtraction. Students have enjoyed furthering their knowledge through a range of activities that include class games, open ended tasks and problem solving scenarios. Students are learning to tell the time to the quarter hour, and revise previous learning of half past and o’clock. Students explored money and equivalent amounts of coins. They then investigated representing the values of these coins in different ways.

Integrated

During our integrated sessions we have been exploring ‘Creativity’. The students have been working hard on creating their own Paper Mache bowl. This process required patience and resilience for the students and they tackled the challenge with great enthusiasm. Once completed the students then created a design to paint their bowls. As well as a hands on approach, students have practised the skill of creativity during maths, writing and drawing activities.

We are so proud of the Grade 2 students returning to school with such joy and an eagerness to learn.

We hope everyone has a wonderful holidays.
