The True Meaning of Christmas

Dear Parents/Guardians

As the school year slowly winds down and we prepare to head into the Christmas season and the summer holidays, there is much for us to reflect back on and also so much to give thanks for - our successes, how much we have grown (spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally and physically) through our experiences over the year and how we have been able to support, care for and challenge each other to be the best we can be. I thank God for His immeasurable blessings over the 2021 school year!

I also thank Him for the blessing of His son two thousand years ago! The true meaning of Christmas often gets lost in the rush associated with this time of year; the shopping, the parties, the baking and the wrapping of gifts. But the essence of the season is that God gave us the greatest gift of all time - His own Son, Jesus Christ. The following poem captures the crux of what Christmas is all about (by Brian K. Walters):

The True Meaning of Christmas

In today's day and time,

It's easy to lose sight,

Of the true meaning of Christmas

And one special night.

When we go shopping,

We say, "How much will it cost?"

Then the true meaning of Christmas,

Somehow becomes lost.

Amidst the tinsel, glitter

And ribbons of gold,

We forget about the child,

Born on a night so cold.

The children look for Santa

In his big, red sleigh

Never thinking of the child

Whose bed was made of hay.

In reality,

When we look into the night sky,

We don't see a sleigh

But a star, burning bright and high.

A faithful reminder,

Of that night so long ago,

And of the child we call Jesus,

Whose love the world would know.

This will also be my last communication to the school community, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for all of your support and prayers over the years. Christ is the head of our school, and He has a plan and a purpose for everyone that comes through our doors. I know that He will help us to go from strength to strength and continue to be a light in the darkness. I have truly enjoyed my time at HCC and will miss it dearly!

Enjoy the fun that the summer holidays will bring. To all, I wish you a joyous Christmas and a relaxing and enjoyable summer holiday.

Travel safe and God bless.
